Job Summary

The North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Integrated Musculoskeletal Service (NIMS) are looking to recruit a part time (22.5 hrs) Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner to join our friendly and innovative team. We will consider a developmental Band 7 to Band 8a post depending on skills and experience. You will be required to evidence advanced skills as a senior clinician working with patients with musculoskeletal pain and a clear desire to expand your knowledge & skills with a capacity for autonomous clinical decision‑making and problem solving. The post holder would be based in the North Staffordshire area and requires access to a car for work purposes as there may be a need to travel within the organisation.


The post holder will play a leading role in our MSK team within the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) with support from the service Clinical & Operational Leads. MPFT is a large, integrated NHS organisation and by becoming part of our team you will be well supported and empowered to deliver services consistent with our Trust values. We have strong connection and joint appointment with Keele University. The MSK Service spans across both North and South Staffordshire providing a vast support network and wealth of knowledge.


If you are able to manage a varied caseload of complex Musculoskeletal patients, committed to CPD and have the desire to develop yourself and the service, with a keen eye on improving patient care, then we would be keen to hear from you.


Main duties of the job

  • The ability to undertake comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of complex patients with a wide variety of physical & emotional needs.
  • Having experience of initial differential diagnosis of a variety of MSK and spinal conditions and knowledge of referral thresholds.
  • The ability to undertake investigations incl. MRI, NCS, bloods etc.
  • Supporting with the delivery of structured interdisciplinary education for the team, including day to day clinical support for physiotherapists and other health care professionals. (Internal and external to the NIMS service).
  • To work closely with uni/multi-disciplinary teams/agencies. The post holder may be involved in addressing a range of care/support issues across the spectrum of MSK and pain conditions, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and improving the health and wellbeing of the population served.
  • Supporting with development and delivery of local and Trust wide projects.
  • To work in collaboration with the operational and clinical leadership team to develop clinical pathways and strengthen links with our external partners and stakeholders.
  • The ability to undertake joint injections as necessary - training will be provided.

Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development is essential and identified through annual appraisal. Clinical supervision is offered through groups or individual supervision as appropriate.

Person Specification
Essential

  • Physiotherapy degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years MSK Physiotherapy experience at an advanced level in the UK
  • Evidence of advanced MSK clinical knowledge relevant to MSK

Desirable

  • Masters qualification in relevant area
  • Competent to order investigations including X Ray, MRI and blood tests
  • Competent to undertake intra articular/ soft tissue injections
