Job Title: Mechanical Project Manager

Location: London (potential flexible working)

Contract Type: 12-Month Renewable Contract

Day Rate: £400 - £500 per day

Start Date: Immediate


Vertical Recruitment are working with a client who are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead the delivery of mechanical building services fit-out projects across London. This role focuses exclusively on fit-out works, including high-end commercial and office spaces. You will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of interior fit out projects, which may include office refurbishments, commercial fit outs, retail spaces, and more.


Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Oversight: Lead and manage all mechanical activity across the banking retail estate, covering both capital works and reactive/planned maintenance projects. Coordinate with the client, internal stakeholders, design consultants, and supply chain to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Team Leadership & Workload Allocation: Allocate workload effectively across both internal project managers and the external consultant/contractor base to ensure optimal resource utilisation and timely delivery. Lead project meetings and progress reviews with clients and subcontractors.
  • Supply Chain Ownership: Take full ownership of the mechanical supply base, including subcontractor performance, commercial alignment, technical compliance, and safety management.
  • Client Relationship & Confidence: Act as the main point of contact for all mechanical matters with the client’s property and FM teams, providing reassurance through proactive communication, technical expertise, and consistent delivery.
  • Programme & Time Management: Ensure all projects and works are completed on time and in line with the client’s programme expectations and operational needs.
  • Problem Solving & Solutions Delivery: Provide a strategic, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving, addressing site, technical or compliance issues quickly and efficiently while minimising disruption to business operations.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all works adhere to statutory compliance, CDM, health & safety, and internal governance standards, working closely with H&S where required.
  • Performance Reporting: Monitor and report on mechanical project performance, financials, progress, and risks, ensuring visibility across both contractor and client stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to drive efficiencies, improve system reliability, and enhance client satisfaction through innovation and best practice.


Requirements

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in project management within the fitout, refurb, or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK building regulations, and health and safety standards.
  • Experience managing commercial, office, or retail fitout/refurb projects is highly desirable.
  • A degree or qualification in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and project costs.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Procore).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and green certification standards (e.g., BREEAM, LEED).
  • Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and other advanced construction technologies.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Prince2, PMP, RICS).
