Mechanical Project Engineer - Affinity Water team

Location - Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire (based in or around South East England with travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region)

Are you an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer looking for your next challenge? Join Galliford Try’s Environment Business and play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure projects that make a real difference to communities.

You’ll work across multiple sites and projects, primarily within the water industry covering clean schemes. Reporting to the Project Manager, you’ll collaborate with a dedicated project delivery team to ensure design, procurement, financial control, and site activities are completed to the highest standards.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead mechanical engineering from concept through to completion using in-house resources and site teams.
  • Deliver Non-Infra M&E projects within the water sector.
  • Oversee design management and liaise with clients and internal teams.
  • Conduct early site investigations and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review health & safety documentation (RAMS, project plans).
  • Procure materials and manage supplier/subcontractor relationships.
  • Attend and oversee factory/site testing, commissioning, and client training.
  • Participate in design reviews and hazard studies to develop optimal solutions.
  • Monitor budgets and assist with cost reviews and variation claims.
  • Ensure quality and compliance through inspection and test plans.
  • Drive innovation while maintaining adherence to standards.
  • Prepare and manage project programmes and documentation (as-built drawings, Operation & Maintenance manuals).
  • Champion health & safety and maintain high performance standards.

About You:

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Organised, proactive, and passionate about delivering excellence.
  • Flexible, resilient, and able to influence at all levels.
  • A self-starter with a can-do attitude and commitment to teamwork.
  • Experience in the water industry or Non-Infra projects (desirable).
  • Knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts, CDM, ATEX, DSEAR (desirable).

Essential Qualifications and Certifications:

  • An industry applicable mechanical ONC/HNC/B.Eng or NVQ equivalent.
  • Full UK driving licence.
