MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER, 3 SHIFTS MONDAY TO FRIDAY, £42-45,000 PLUS BONUS, OVERTIME AND BENEFITS

The Company

Our client is a leading name in several fields of manufacturing, with a major European and UK presence spanning numerous operational plants. As part of the continued growth of the business they are presently seeking a Maintenance Technician with Mechanical bias to provide engineering support for their operation in Manchester.


Job Purpose

Provide the on-site engineering maintenance cover required to meet the needs of an expanding business. A time-served engineer able to carry out fault finding and repairs to a range of manufacturing equipment. Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills essential as well as a broad knowledge of all aspects of engineering and site facilities.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on all production equipment (PPM).
  • Diagnose and rectify issues promptly to minimise downtime and enhance productivity.
  • Uphold compliance with safety regulations and champion a culture of safety on site.
  • Help plan maintenance schedules and update the CMMS system accurately, including CI activities/repairs/upgrades and modifications.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to co‑ordinate maintenance schedules and optimise equipment efficiency.
  • Conduct routine inspection to identify potential problems and implement pro‑active measures to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Form part of project teams when required.
  • Good fault diagnosis skills and the ability to rectify breakdowns on production machinery and site facilities.
  • Have a good understanding of the different types of drawings.
  • Suggest improvements and carry out associated modifications as small projects (continuous improvement).
  • Handover shift meeting at end of shift.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Good level of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Time served apprenticed trained (mechanical, electrical or multi‑skilled).
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Confident to respond positively when under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Teamworking skills to work co‑operatively and liaise with departments.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • An awareness of Health and Safety Legislation.
