Mechanical Fitter & Site Installation Engineer

  • Salary: £40,000-£45,000 DOE + OTE up to £65,000
  • Employment Type: Permanent
  • Location: Harlow, Essex (commutable distance required)
  • Travel: Approx. 6 international trips per year
  • Benefits: Paid overtime, site allowances, full travel expenses

About the Role:

Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer who enjoys precision assembly work and the excitement of international travel?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a rapidly expanding manufacturer of special-purpose conveyor systems. You'll split your time between hands-on assembly at our client's modern Harlow facility and travelling overseas to install and commission bespoke machinery at customer sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble bespoke conveyor systems from detailed engineering drawings and pneumatic schematics
  • Travel internationally to install, commission, and test equipment at customer locations
  • Carry out precision mechanical fitting tasks including drilling, tapping, cutting, and fabrication
  • Fit motors, gearboxes, bearings, drive shafts, rollers, and pipework
  • Ensure machinery is accurately levelled, aligned, and fully compliant with specifications
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and project teams

Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical assembly, machine building, or mechanical fitting background
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings
  • Skilled in precision alignment, mechanical installation, and troubleshooting
  • Comfortable with international travel (approx. 6 trips per year)
  • Practical, hands-on approach with excellent problem-solving ability

Qualifications:

  • Completed mechanical apprenticeship or relevant vocational qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ or equivalent)
