As part of our continued expansion and strengthening tender pipeline, we are seeking a commercially astute and technically proficient Mechanical Estimator to support the preparation of accurate, competitive, and strategically positioned bid submissions across international industrial and mechanical construction projects.

 

The Role

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical installation projects, including pipework, plant installation, steel structures, and associated services.

You will review tender documentation, assess project scope, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, and develop detailed cost build-ups to support successful bid submissions.

The role requires strong technical understanding, commercial awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with Directors, Project Managers, Commercial and Procurement teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Tender & Cost Estimation

•        Review ITT (Invitation to Tender) documentation, drawings, specifications, and scope of works.

•        Prepare detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, plant, and preliminaries.

•        Develop take-offs and quantify materials from drawings and technical documents.

•        Prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns and pricing schedules.

•        Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.

•        Support bid clarifications and post-tender negotiations.

•        Assist in preparing tender reports and executive summaries for management review.

 

Supplier & Subcontractor Engagement

•        Obtain and evaluate supplier and if required subcontractor quotations.

•        Negotiate pricing and ensure alignment with project scope and programme requirements.

•        Support the development of preferred supplier and subcontractor networks.

 

Handover & Project Support

•        Provide detailed handover information to Project Managers upon award.

•        Support cost control during project delivery where required.

•        Maintain accurate estimating records and cost databases for future tenders.

 

Experience & Skills

•        Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.

•   Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial mechanical or MEP estimating within construction environments.

•    Strong understanding of mechanical installations including pipework, plant, steel structures, and associated systems.

•        Experience working with subcontractor packages and supplier pricing.

•        Knowledge of UK construction contracts and commercial practices.

 

Experience & Skills

•        Strong technical interpretation of drawings and specifications.

•        Excellent numerical and analytical skills.

•        Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

•        Commercial awareness and negotiation capability.

•        Strong organisational and time management skills.

•        Ability to work under tender deadlines and programme pressure.

•        Clear written and verbal communication skills.
