Our MEP team is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team.


You'll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary business with over 600 staff across Building Engineering (MEP, Civil and Structural), Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Transportation, Water, Energy, and Environmental Consultancy.


Our Building Services work spans a wide range of sectors, including Defence, Healthcare, Education, Science, Industrial, Commercial, and Client Advisory, across the UK and abroad.


What you’ll do.



  • Produce Mechanical building services engineering designs from concept design through to construction issue and site supervision.
  • Execute projects within defined design, programme and cost parameters
  • Carrying out designs on a variety of buildings within different sectors i.e. schools, healthcare, offices, leisure facilities, Government buildings, industrial etc
  • Prepare technical specifications, design risk assessments, reports and drawings.
  • Represent AECOM at meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Site surveys and inspections where appropriate.
  • Conduct design quality reviews/audits as required.
  • Maintaining records and archives to company standards
  • Assist with processes for the development of staff in order to enhance the standards, expertise and reputation of AECOM.
  • Promote and improve inter-discipline working with other disciplines such as Architecture, Building Surveying, Civil and Structural.
  • Monitor emerging legislation and engineering standards relating to electrical building services and ensure their implementation.
  • Input to the design change control process and estimate cost and /or time implications where so delegated.
  • Cooperate with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute to the AECOM commitment for continual improvement.
  • Assist in the production of fee estimates and bids.

Requirements:



  • Mechanical Building Services degree qualified with CEng (or working towards)
  • Proficient in the use of Hevacomp design or other appropriate software.
  • Familiar with and good working experience of IES Virtual Environment modelling software or equivalent.
  • Competent in the use of NBS specification writing software.
  • Competent in designing coordinated service runs and optimising ceiling spaces with electrical colleagues and other disciplines.
  • Familiar with and good working experience of BIM level 2 drawing outputs required for 3D modelling in Revit software.
  • Knowledge of Water Regs, CoPs and CIBSE Design Guides.
  • Possess an intuitive approach to initial loading estimates to generate utility quotations.
  • A good understanding of quality assurance, safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Familiar with and good working experience of Building Regulations requirements for energy conservation and low carbon technologies, ensuring that sustainability and compliance is achieved with all our projects.
  • Capable of managing a small project from start to finish, maintaining standards and being aware of fee and time constraints.
  • Design experience of hot and cold water systems and distribution, ventilation, heating, chilled water and above ground drainage.
  • A good understanding of sustainability issues including passive design and low and zero carbon technologies.
  • An inherently safety focussed individual, with safety integrated in everything they do.
  • Organise and prioritise their own time and tasks to enable the simultaneous running of several projects
  • Be able to logically analyse problems from first principles to determine solutions.
