This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the performance and reliability of our Formula One Power Units in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.You will be responsible for the design, development, and optimisation of key gas exchange systems, including PU charge air system including throttles and pop-off valves, exhaust systems including wastegates, as well as the whole PU hydraulics system.You will apply first-principles engineering to support design, development, and failure investigation activities, ensuring solutions meet demanding performance, packaging, and reliability targets. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential working across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance, race-ready hardware.To be successful in this Mechanical Design Engineer position you will need:Essential:* A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.* At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design for high-performance motorsport applications or similar industries.* Experience of clean sheet design from concept to track.* A passion for innovation is essential, along with a relentless desire for continuous improvement.* A thorough understanding of engine design and its contribution to on-track performance.Expected:* In-depth knowledge of mechanical design and stress analysis.* Practical test and data analysis experience to define design validation test requirements.* Practical experience of power unit / chassis integration.* Proven experience in design project leadership to drive successful project outcomes.* Ability to identify and resolve design faults quickly and effectively, ensuring performance and reliability.* Proven track record of design for manufacture and design for assembly.* Familiarity with composites design, tooling, laminate manuals, and manufacturing techniques.* Familiarity with F1 hydraulic systems and their integration within the power unit.Key Attributes:* Can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills is essential.* Evidenced experience of complex decision-making and strategic thinking when faced with imperfect data and challenging timelines.* Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster strong cross-departmental relationships.* Initiative, innovation, and engineering enthusiasm* Evidenced experience of complex decision making and strategic thinking when faced with imperfect data and challenging timelines.* Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster strong cross-departmental relationships.At Red Bull Powertrains, we don’t just compete—we push boundaries, fight for every win, and never settle for second best.
