Overview

This role is based at Diageo’s Shieldhall packaging site in Glasgow. Shieldhall packages a huge volume of Scotch malt whiskies, white spirits and ready to drink brands to supply over 170 countries worldwide and is a key manufacturing site within the Scotch supply category. The Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient maintenance, repair, problem-solving, and improvement of mechanical assets to maximise their availability across the site. This is a permanent role with a starting salary of £43,003.88 plus a competitive benefits package including pension, shares scheme and bonus.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with operations teams, CAPEX, and other maintenance groups to drive operational performance and improvements.
  • Engage with operations teams and maintenance personnel to deliver and review mandatory and requested maintenance with minimal production impact, ensuring availability of spare parts for scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Implement and develop maintenance programs aimed at supporting and improving asset performance and utilization.
  • Respond promptly to plant breakdowns, identifying and repairing root causes to minimise downtime.
  • Uphold health and safety compliance and maintain high-quality standards in all aspects of work.
  • Utilise SAP-PM to raise, update, and record all maintenance tasks in line with a weekly asset care delivery plan.

Health and safety compliance is key, and you will be at the forefront of ensuring this is achieved while meeting site and personal KPIs.


Shifts

You will work 38hrs per week on day shift, Monday – Thursday, 7am-5pm.

To be successful in this role, we’re looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills who can communicate at all levels. You should be able to use initiative, push forward your own ideas, and offer guidance and support for our current approaches.


Key skills and experience

  • Relevant qualifications and demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and environmental risk principles
  • Proven hands-on experience within a production environment with understanding of asset performance and maintenance
  • Experience in a production/FMCG environment is desirable
  • Experience in data analysis and use of applications (Excel, Word) and business systems such as SAP
  • Ability to work well within a team and to make effective decisions; thrives in problem-solving situations
  • Able to push forward ideas for improvements and appraise new opportunities to enhance manufacturing excellence
