Job Description

You will be a key member of the Field Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (FMEICA) Team, ensuring assets and structures, across the Cambs and Beds area, are operational. Technical Advisors are an integral part of the team, providing technical oversight and guidance to the team, and wider area in engineering matters. From in house Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM’s) and reactive maintenance through to projects involving our framework contractors. You will work closely with our teams mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure that all work is completed in a safe, timely manner.


Responsibilities

  • Plan works (Internal and External) – assess tasks on a case‑by‑case basis ensuring that whoever conducts the work is best placed through experience, currency and competency.
  • Ensure statutory maintenance is conducted, including PUWER, LOLER, EICR and PSSR.
  • Process Work Orders – check, edit and send Work Orders and site packs to the engineers using our Asset Management system (AIMS:OM). Once works have been completed, action any defects raised and close the tasks.
  • Visit sites to assess jobs and formulate solutions.
  • Liaise with other internal teams to ensure our assets function as required.
  • Contractor and supplier liaison, including reviewing paperwork and setting scope of works.

Location

Our primary location is Ely, but we are a dispersed team covering a large geographical area. The role may be based at one of the primary EA offices within Cambs and Beds – Kings Lynn, Ely Depot, Brampton (Huntington) or Bedford – and will require regular travel to sites across the area (vehicle provided). Some travel and overnights may be required.


Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of C&G/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with extensive, demonstrable experience in either discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • A good working knowledge of PUWER, LOLER and H&S regulations.
  • Experience utilising Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) – specific training will be provided on the EA’s internal system, AIMS:OM.
  • Experience in statutory maintenance (PUWER, LOLER, EICR, PSSR) is required.

Desirable Qualifications / Training (Training will be provided)

  • Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • Construction Design Management (CDM) 2015
  • Lifting Operations (slinger/signaller/Appointed Person)
  • IOSH/NEBOSH
  • Project management experience and qualifications (PRINCE/PMQ etc)
  • C&G 2382 Qualification (BS7671 wiring regulations) – if Electrical
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI’s, pressure transducers and sonar (electrical)
  • Hydraulics, fabrication
  • Registered with a professional governing body (IMechE/IET etc) as EngTech, IEng or CEng – this role currently attracts a Market Forces Factor (MFF) payment for IEng and CEng.
