Job Description

Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Design Team Lead you will lead a talented team of engineers, driving the design and development of innovative products and technologies. You’ll be at the forefront of the mechanical design, ensuring that each product meets quality requirements, timelines and cost creating a real impact at launch.

In this role, you’ll inspire and guide your team, fuelling both their professional growth and the business’s strategic goals. You’ll mentor passionate engineers and cultivate a collaborative environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a talented team of engineers through projects of varying complexity.
  • Responsible for the successful design, development and delivery of robust products in line with project requirements. From definition and feasibility through to successful production implementation.
  • Manage and mentor your team ensuring suitable business and personal development KPI's are in place and championed.
  • Plan and prioritise work packages to meet commitments aligned with project goals.
  • Employ design for quality methodologies and tools to ensure a robust, repeatable and reliable design whilst optimising for consumer value.
  • Ensure the use of suitable tolerancing schemes and analysis techniques. Balancing production repeatability and part cost.
  • Select suitable manufacturing processes optimising parts for the chosen process.
  • Apply knowledge of relevant standards and compliance requirements when developing products in addition to established test methods.
  • Collaborate with the wider development team to ensure an efficient and functional design scheme.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement for both product and internal working processes.

To be ready to take on this role we would love you to have: -

  • A suitable qualification in Mechanical Engineering such as HND or BSc/BEng.
  • Significant experience leading a team with a proven record of successful product delivery.
  • Proficiency in using 3D CAD and PDM tools. SolidWorks experience is beneficial.
  • Experience applying industry standards and compliance requirements when developing products.
  • Working knowledge of Design for manufacture and assembly principles and supplier involvement.
  • Knowledge of electronic principles, components and constraints to optimise electromechanical assemblies.
  • Taken on opportunities and challenges with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • A personable and professional approach that positively influences the team dynamic.
  • Managed complexity and ambiguity when things are not certain, or the way forward is unclear.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to enable decisions to be made when faced with complex and potentially contradictory information.
