Mechanical Design Engineer : Defence Sector

Responsibilities
  • Deliver stress analysis, fatigue assessments, and structural design calculations, including non-linear FEA, to guarantee the integrity and performance of bridging products.
  • Develop comprehensive test specifications, acceptance criteria, and technical reports that satisfy customer, industry, and legislative requirements.
  • Manage both internal and external engineering activities, carrying out detailed design reviews and ensuring full compliance with manufacturing and quality standards.
  • Work directly with customers to clarify scope, confirm deliverables, and manage project plans, workload distribution, and resource requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve issues relating to non-conforming components, leading root-cause analysis initiatives and driving continuous improvement across processes and products.
  • Interpret design criteria and ensure all engineering outputs align with relevant standards, codes, and technical specifications.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, accompanied by Chartered status with a recognised engineering institution.
  • Deep understanding of structural behaviour, material science, and proficiency in FEA tools such as ANSYS.
  • Strong working knowledge of Eurocodes, fatigue evaluation methodologies, and structural integrity assessments.
  • Experience with aluminium and steel fabrication processes, as well as interpreting and creating detailed technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling, simulation-led design validation, and hands-on familiarity with strain gauging techniques.
