Contribute directly to life‑safety technology used globally.As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering robust mechanical designs for high‑volume safety‑critical products. You will work across the full development lifecycle—from concept, simulation, and prototyping through testing, verification, regulatory approval, and production handover.Accountabilities* Deliver robust, cost‑optimised mechanical designs on time and within budget.* Work with Project managers to define implementation plans and deliver against them.* Ensure all designs comply with quality, manufacturing, and regulatory standards (including UKCA/CE and EN 54).* Drive innovation in materials, sustainability, and manufacturing processes.Authorities* Check and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and supporting documentation.## Responsibilities – Essential* Design high‑volume plastic injection‑moulded components and small metal fabrications.* Create innovative mechanical solutions optimised for manufacture, assembly, reliability, sustainability, and ease of installation.* Ensure that existing designs are managed and supported through their lifecycle.* Perform DFMEAs and drive corrective actions to eliminate risk.* Prepare detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks.* Use our PLM system to manage design data, change processes, and control configuration management.* Participate in prototyping activities, engineering evaluations, and physical testing.* Support regulatory and environmental testing with Labs and Compliance teams.* Apply sustainability‑led design principles (DfE, eco‑design, materials optimisation).* Collaborate cross‑functionally with Electronics, Compliance, Software, Manufacturing, and Programme teams.## Responsibilities – Desirable* Experience defining mechanical architecture at the system level (interfaces, structure, materials).* Execute simulations: FEA (static/dynamic), CFD, tolerance analysis, mouldflow, or ray‑tracing.* Familiarity with Model‑Based Definition (MBD).* Knowledge of digital engineering methods, simulation automation.* Understanding of modern automated and smart manufacturing technologies.* Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives and introduce new technologies.Leading yourself* Good Communication skills - Listening and giving honest, constructive feedback.* Trusts and empowers staff to make decisions and be the best that they can be.* Practices a coaching/mentoring ethos.* Builds and promotes teamwork.* Is effective at managing relationships.* Effectively manages their emotions and impulses, showing or restraining certain emotions depending on what is necessary and beneficial for the situation.* Has the drive to improve and achieve, taking the initiative, being assertive, having optimism when facing setbacks, and resilience.* Has the effective social skills of managing relationships in a way that benefits the company.* Is innovative and solutions-driven towards all business challenges.* Shows change agility: Is agile and responsive to change.
