Position: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Walsall

Duration: Permanent

Salary: £45,000-50,000 per annum + competitive benefits package

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8.00-16.30, Friday: 8.00-13:30

The Role:

Integrate Engineering Resources is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer for a permanent position on behalf of our client, a market leading engineering manufacturer who design and produce pressure vessels, pressure pipework, and heat exchangers in the power generation, petrochemical, water and offshore sectors

The role will involve being responsible for the design and development of pressure vessels, pressure pipework, heat exchangers, and fabrication jigs and fixtures, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards. Youll work closely with production, quality, and project teams, contributing to both new product development and the continuous improvement of existing designs. This role would suit an engineer who combines strong technical expertise with practical problem-solving ability and a commitment to quality engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop pressure vessels, pipework, and heat exchangers in line with ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952 standards.
  • Produce accurate engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Conduct design calculations, stress analysis, and material selection.
  • Collaborate with project and production teams to ensure specifications and deadlines are met
  • Optimise designs for functionality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Support the development of jigs, fixtures, and tooling for fabrication.
  • Ensure designs comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date design records and documentation.
Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience).
  • Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally involving pressure systems or heavy fabrication.
  • Experience in the power generation, oil & gas, or chemical industries.
  • Knowledge of ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952 standards.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Experience with stress analysis and material selection.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Chartered status or working towards IMechE / IED membership.
