Overview

Working in a small, versatile team, the candidate's work will involve Mechanical development of Electronic and Electro‑mechanical products and sustaining activities on a range of high volume PACS RFID access products and Access Control Controllers which are sold worldwide.


The candidate needs to be able to effectively manage their time to support work on a variety of products at different stages of the product's lifecycle, and to be able to collaborate well with colleagues from different departments across broad seniority, both onsite and overseas. Occasional travel may be required.

Physical Access Control Solutions (PACS)

Responsibilities

  • Own Mechanical Design and Development of Physical Access reader and controllers.
  • Work with product management to confirm product requirements for allocated projects.
  • Investigating and resolving customer issues relating to readers and Controllers.
  • Assist with Sustaining and VAVE (Value Add / Value Engineering) tasks – cost down investigations, production efficiencies and feature improvements on current products.
  • Researching and implementing alternative components and solutions to assist with Contract Manufacture and Supply Chain.
  • Participate in high level solution discussions covering architecture, technology.
  • Acting as subject matter expert for Mechanical engineering.

Primary Duties

  • Design and development of mechanical housings and accessories – Plastic and Metal.
  • Work alongside Electrical design colleagues to develop mechanical solutions.
  • Collaborate with wider design team for Design for manufacture.
  • Collaborate with Tool makers and contract manufacturers.
  • Perform mechanical engineering test and validation on prototypes.
  • Support design validation group with final product testing / compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally Degree level in Engineering or related subject, 5 - 10 years’ experience in Engineering.
  • Other qualifications and experience will be considered.
  • Use of 3D CAD software – Preferably SolidWorks – High proficiency.
  • 2D Engineering and assembly drawings using Solidworks.
  • Highly knowledgeable in plastic Injection molding and tooling (2K, over molding, etc)
  • Tools from 200KG to 3000KG.
  • Good working knowledge of metal component manufacturing (Sheet and cast).
  • Good knowledge and experience of a variety of plastic and metal materials.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in medium to high volume mass production.

Other desirable Knowledge and skills

  • Up to date knowledge of modern Injection molding technologies.
  • Working knowledge of different types of fabrication (machining, ultrasonic welding, etc).l---
  • Simulation Tools (eg Moldflow, Thermal, Stress, etc).
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, RFID, Wireless technologies.
  • High level of communications skills. Ability to communicate across a broad level of seniority.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards (ISO, UL), etc
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiar with operating systems, such as Windows, etc.

Work Requirements

  • Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
  • Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required. Therefore, employee must possess, or be able to acquire a valid passport.
