Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Derby, UK

Salary: £55,000


Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation specialising in turbomachinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full design process — from initial concept through to production — ensuring all designs meet technical, manufacturing, and customer requirements. This role offers the chance to lead high-impact projects while mentoring junior engineers within a collaborative and innovative environment.


Job Responsibilities

• Create, update, and maintain mechanical designs and detailed drawings.

• Lead design activities across the full product lifecycle, from concept to manufacture.

• Manage multiple complex design projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on time / in budget.

• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define and document design requirements.

• Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership.


Skills Required

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or related Engineering discipline.

• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in turbomachinery design.

• Proficient in CAD (NX experience highly advantageous).

• Strong organisational, communication, and presentation skills.

• Ability to liaise confidently with customers and cross-functional teams.

• Willingness to travel occasionally across the UK and Europe.
