We are looking for a talented and detail-driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering Team within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will design and detail Mechanical housings and enclosures for electronic systems used throughout the Defence and Cyber-security sectors, in line with detailed design specifications. You will support the development of a large offering of standard product lines as well as bespoke design solutions, complete full product drawing packs to a high standard, assist with prototypes from conception through to launch, and maintain products through their lifespan.

Responsibilities
  • Design Mechanical solutions that comply with the detailed design specification within tight timeframes and budgetary constraints driven by a competitive marketplace.
  • Produce 2D detail drawings through SolidWorks for manufacturing & inspection, primarily for sheet metal and machined components, but not limited to.
  • Provide design-for-cost solutions that meet technical requirements and company manufacturing processes.
  • Produce assembly drawings and compile BoMs on the company ERP system.
  • Create and maintain product drawing packs and product design documentation.
  • Support Research and Innovation projects, prototype builds, and developments.
  • Collaborate with design team members, production engineering, and the test team to ensure designs can be manufactured in a timely manner with a right-first-time approach.
  • Support generation of project time plans to ensure successful delivery of development programmes.
  • Actively support and implement Drawing Office Procedures and maintain Engineering Change Request procedures.
  • Ensure Environmental Health and Safety / Company Policies are adhered to at all times.
Education/Qualifications
  • Preferred HNC in Mechanical Engineering or above.
  • Further education/courses in mechanical engineering and membership of a recognised Mechanical Institute are advantageous.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in designing and drafting using 3D and 2D CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and cost drivers.
  • Clear understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, machined components, and manufacturing practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and a problem-solving approach with clear, concise design documentation and a right-first-time attitude.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to work both in a team and independently.
  • Initiative, ability to lead, and willingness to learn and develop.
  • Ability to manage conflict and maintain professional relationships.
Other Requirements
  • SC clearance or ability to obtain.
  • Based within a 40 mile radius of site.
