We are currently looking for a Mechanical Craft Team Member to join our Cranes & Lifting Department at our Llanwern site. This is a practical, hands‑on role where you’ll play a vital part in keeping our essential lifting equipment safe, reliable and fully operational. You’ll be part of a tight‑knit team working in a busy and safety‑focused environment that supports steel production across the UK.

What you will do

As a Mechanical Craft Team Member, you’ll take responsibility for carrying out maintenance and repairs across a range of lifting equipment. Your day‑to‑day work will support the safe and efficient running of the plant, and you’ll contribute your knowledge as a skilled craftsperson within a high‑performing team.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Completing maintenance, fault‑finding and repair tasks to a high standard
  • Promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring all tasks comply with risk assessments and safety procedures
  • Supporting the team leader in planning work, coordinating resources and maintaining accurate records in SAP
  • Delivering on‑the‑job training and coaching to other team members

You’ll also have the chance to deputise for the Area Team Leader when required, giving you the opportunity to strengthen your leadership skills in a supportive setting.

What you will need

We’re looking for an experienced, team‑oriented craftsperson with strong technical skills and a proactive attitude. You’ll need:

  • A time‑served Mechanical apprenticeship
  • Experience working on lifting equipment and familiarity with PUWER/LOLER regulations
  • The ability to work at height and in a safety‑critical environment
  • Clear communication skills and a willingness to lead and support others
  • Basic IT skills and experience managing maintenance activity

It would be great if you also have:

  • Familiarity with SAP or similar systems
  • Experience with EOT crane maintenance
  • A track record of continuous improvement
