A cutting-edge automotive manufacturer in Telford is seeking an innovative IoT Developer to support the transformation of traditional production into a fully connected smart factory. Specialising in high-pressure die-casting, this company produces medium to large aluminium components for major vehicle manufacturers worldwide and is rapidly advancing its digital infrastructure to achieve operational excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to work on Industry 4.0 initiatives in a high-tech environment where automation, data, and intelligent systems come together.

About the Role

You’ll join a forward-thinking engineering team focused on designing and implementing advanced control systems, edge computing solutions, and machine connectivity. Your core mission: turn IoT and digitalisation strategies into reality on the shop floor.

As an IoT Developer, you will be hands-on with real-time data acquisition, device integration, and network communications—while collaborating closely with engineers, IT teams, and operators to optimise performance and uptime.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain IIoT infrastructure for production equipment

Configure connectivity using protocols like MQTT, OPC UA/DA, and WebSocket

Work with edge devices (e.g. Raspberry Pi, industrial gateways) and cloud platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT)

Integrate factory sensors (temperature, pressure, vibration) with data handling systems

Collaborate across departments to support predictive maintenance and automation goals

Apply cybersecurity best practices in IoT design and implementation

Use programming languages including Python, JavaScript (Node.js), C/C++, and C#

Interface with PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial robots (ABB, Fanuc, Kuka)

Support ongoing development of smart manufacturing tools and dashboards

Ideal Background

Essential:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Controls Engineering, or similar

Solid understanding of TCP/IP, networking protocols, and cloud/edge architecture

Strong programming skills (Python, JavaScript, C#, etc.)

Knowledge of SQL databases and data-driven systems

Hands-on experience with real-time connectivity and IIoT frameworks

Desirable:

Experience with Siemens PLCs and industrial robot programming

Familiarity with SCADA, MQTT protocol, and predictive maintenance systems

Understanding of manufacturing workflows and quality assurance in fast-paced environments

Certifications in ITIL, PRINCE2, or relevant project management methods
