Join an industry leader in smart building technology and infrastructure. For forty years, our client has been revolutionising smart buildings, providing advanced, integrated systems that drive sustainability and efficiency across critical projects, including at Gatwick Airport.

Are you a skilled infrastructure Engineer with a passion for cutting-edge technology and a desire to work in one of the UK’s busiest and most dynamic environments?

We’re looking for an experienced Smart Buildings Infrastructure Engineer to join a dedicated team based full-time at Gatwick Airport. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in supporting and maintaining the smart infrastructure of an iconic transport hub.

As a Smart Buildings Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of advanced smart building systems, including copper and fibre network infrastructure, Audio Visual systems, Electronic Security, IoT devices, and both wired and wireless networks.

You’ll ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same.

To be considered for the role you will need to have

  • A minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in a similar ICT/smart tech installation role

  • Experience of Installing, terminating, and testing copper (CAT-5/6/6A) and fibre optic (OS1/2 and OM3/4/5) cabling infrastructure to industry standards.

  • A valid ECS/CSCS Card

  • Full, clean UK Driving Licence

  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety

It would also be desired to have PASMA and/or IPAF certifications, be First Aid trained and have any experience working in an airport, transport hub, or other critical infrastructure site. Any experience installing containment systems (conduit, basket, tray) would also be richly welcome

Flexibility is key in this role, as occasional night work and overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.

    You will be responsible for

  • Installing, terminating, and testing copper (CAT-5/6/6A) and fibre optic (OS1/2 and OM3/4/5) cabling infrastructure to industry standards.

  • Installing end-point equipment including Electronic Security systems (CCTV, access control), Wi-Fi & Mobile Access Points, IoT sensors, and Audio Visual devices using appropriate fixings and media.

  • Mounting and configuring network equipment in cabinets according to manufacturer's specifications, including servers, routers, switches, controllers, and WAN devices.

  • Performing equipment and system patching across network infrastructure.

  • Supporting commissioning teams with equipment commissioning, maintenance, servicing, fault-finding, rectification, decommissioning, and relocation.

  • Carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance on network infrastructure.

  • Diagnosing and repairing common faults in cabling and network systems.

  • Conducting infrastructure testing using Fluke testing equipment and Linkware software, ensuring compliance with manufacturer, customer, and industry standards.

  • Installing Audio Visual, IoT, Wi-Fi, Electronic Security and networking devices

  • Building and installing network equipment racks and containment systems (tray, basket, conduit, trunking)

  • Supporting system commissioning, maintenance, and fault diagnosis

  • Completing documentation and test results to industry standards

  • Complying with all on-site Health & Safety and RAMS protocols

  • Working from technical drawings and scopes to install and support ICT infrastructure

A competitive Salary & Benefits: + overtime awaits the successful applicant. If you’re ready to take your technical career to new heights at Gatwick Airport, we’d love to hear from you

How to Get a Better Edge Computing Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Being made redundant from an edge computing role can feel like a serious setback—especially in a field as specialised and rapidly evolving as distributed computing. But edge computing remains a key growth area in the UK tech economy, with applications in autonomous vehicles, manufacturing, smart cities, telecoms, and defence. Whether you’re a cloud-edge integration engineer, embedded systems developer, IoT specialist, or network architect, there are real opportunities to reposition your career after redundancy. This guide offers a practical UK-focused plan to help you relaunch your career with confidence.

Edge Computing Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Work Out Your True Worth in Seconds

Why last year’s pay survey misleads edge‑computing professionals today Ask an Edge Software Engineer debugging container images on a factory floor, an IoT Solutions Architect jostling latency and security, or a DevOps Lead deploying micro‑VMs on 5G towers: “Am I earning what I deserve?” The answer changes faster than the firmware you flashed last sprint. Retail chains move inferencing to store servers, autonomous vehicle start‑ups hoard FPGA talent, telcos monetise network slices, & every new use‑case nudges salary bands. A PDF survey printed in 2024 is already fossilised—missing the GPU shortages, fresh EU edge‑security directives, and the UK government’s Zero‑Carbon Edge computing grants that landed this spring. To give professionals an up‑to‑date benchmark, EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk distilled a transparent, three‑factor formula that estimates a realistic 2025 salary in under a minute. Feed in your discipline, UK region, & seniority, and you’ll get a defensible figure—no stale averages, no guesswork. This article unpacks the formula, spotlights six forces driving pay higher, and lays out five practical moves to boost your market value within ninety days.

How to Present Edge Computing Solutions to Non-Technical Audiences: A Public Speaking Guide for Job Seekers

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed, analysed, and acted upon—bringing intelligence closer to the source. But despite its growing relevance across sectors like manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and transport, many decision-makers still don’t understand what edge computing is—let alone why it matters. As a job seeker in the edge computing space, your ability to explain this technology clearly is a crucial skill. Whether you're applying for a role in edge architecture, IoT development, 5G networks, or AI at the edge, you’ll likely be asked to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences during interviews or in the role itself. This guide will help you deliver compelling presentations that demystify edge computing—offering structure, visual design tips, storytelling strategies, and proven methods for answering tough stakeholder questions.
