Overview

TEXO Recruitment are currently looking for a Heavy Plant Mechanic / Plant Fitter on behalf our external client in Blyth. This key role is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, and repair of heavy plant, forklifts and diesel-powered machinery used in port operations. The role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime to support cargo handling and operational activities.


Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy plant and mechanical equipment used in port operations
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
  • Service and repair forklift trucks, telehandlers and other plant equipment.
  • Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on plant machinery and port equipment.
  • Troubleshoot faults on diesel engines and fuel systems.
  • Carry out breakdown repairs to minimise operational disruption.
  • Inspect and maintain hydraulic hoses, pumps, cylinders, and drive systems.
  • Maintain accurate service records and maintenance documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the port environment.
  • Work collaboratively with operations teams to maintain equipment reliability.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or similar.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Forklift maintenance or plant equipment certifications advantageous.
  • Experience working as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Mechanic, Forklift Engineer, or Diesel Mechanic.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, mechanical systems, and electrical fault finding.
  • Experience servicing and repairing forklifts and heavy plant machinery.
  • Ability to diagnose faults quickly and perform effective repairs.
  • Experience working in industrial, construction, logistics, or port environments.
