A high-impact senior leadership opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Mechanical Operations to take ownership of all mechanical services within a well-established and growing M&E maintenance and HVAC environment.


This is a pivotal appointment, offering the chance to lead a sizeable operation with full responsibility for performance, people, and growth across commercial and domestic plumbing, heating, and HVAC services.


The Opportunity:


You will operate as a key member of the senior leadership team, with full accountability for the delivery, strategic direction, and continued development of all mechanical operations. This role offers genuine scope to shape the function, influence business performance, and drive long-term growth.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across all mechanical activities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a management team including Contracts Managers and Project Managers
  • Oversee a workforce across service, maintenance, and installation
  • Drive operational excellence across commercial and domestic plumbing, heating, and gas works
  • Ensure successful delivery of heating systems, plant room projects, and associated mechanical services
  • Take ownership of compliance, HSE, and regulatory standards, including gas compliance
  • Oversee the Helpdesk function to ensure efficient planning, responsiveness, and customer service
  • Identify and implement improvements to processes, performance, and profitability
  • Play a key role in business planning, growth strategy, and client relationship development


About You:


  • Proven track record in a senior leadership or director-level role within mechanical services, M&E, or HVAC
  • Strong technical grounding in plumbing, heating, and gas (commercial and/or domestic)
  • Demonstrated experience leading large teams and managing multi-site operations
  • Commercially driven with experience managing budgets, P&L, and operational performance
  • Strong understanding of industry regulations and compliance frameworks
  • A natural leader with the ability to influence, engage, and drive high-performing teams
