About The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity awaits a Fluid Mechanical Design & Test Engineer to join the Airbus Flight and Integration Test Centre in Filton.

You will be a key player in the development of Fuel Fluid-Mechanical Laboratory Test Means—responsible for the design, build, and maintenance of cutting-edge ground-based laboratory test means that ensure the safety and performance of Airbus aircraft fuel systems across all programs. This is a cradle-to-grave engineering role that combines hands-on testing, conceptual design, and advanced data analysis.

What You Will Do (Core Activities)
  1. Design & Build: Lead the preparation, design, integration, and build of new fluid mechanical lab test means. Collaborate with and drive external suppliers to support all build and maintenance activities. Drive the evaluation and development of new technologies, such as test automation and digital platforms, to innovate lab test means.
  2. Testing & Analysis: Prepare test procedures and conduct hands-on testing on high-pressure fluid systems. Operate and maintain data logging/acquisition equipment and measurement calibration (and validate data collected). Perform system test data analysis using a digital mindset (e.g., big data/smart data analytics). Produce timely and high-quality Laboratory Test Reports. Act as the Technical Focal Point for assigned test campaigns. Maintain accurate Test Rig and A/C System configuration control records throughout the test campaigns.
  3. Strategy & Support: Contribute to the long-term sub-domain strategy and technology roadmap. Provide reactive customer support to solve electrical/mechanical/software issues on test benches. Ensure legacy test means maintain a high level of availability through maintenance and obsolescence management.
What You Will Bring (Essential Skills)
  • Education: HNC level in Mechanical Engineering or an Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Past experience working in a test laboratory environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Practical experience with systems testing techniques. Experience working with Large, High Pressure, Fluid Mechanical Systems (e.g. hydraulics, pneumatics, high-flow pumps, etc). Familiarity with Hydro-Mechanical instrumentation and Data Logging/Acquisition.
  • Soft Skills: Proven ability in Technical Report writing/reviewing, and a proactive ability to influence and work effectively across transnational teams.
Desirable Skills (Nice To Have)
  • Familiarity with Airbus aircraft fuel system operating principles.
  • Experience in test activity planning and test rig parts/equipment Configuration Management.
  • Knowledge of Requirements Based Engineering or project management principles.
