FCP Physiotherapist (Band 7) - Fixed Term

We are looking for a proactive andskilled First Contact Physiotherapist to join our team, providing expertpatient care with exemplary MSK knowledge, diagnostic experience, andmanagement skills based on best current evidence. You will excel in verbal andnon-verbal communication and collaborate closely with GPs, and other healthcareteams across primary care in Stockport.

We provide a face-to-face, in-house FCPservice to all PCN's within the Stockport borough and also hold the specialistspinal service for the area requiring expert knowledge in clinic diagnosis,imaging and management of complex spinal conditions. You will have or beexpected to work towards MSK injection therapy and Non-medical prescribingqualifications with clinical application.

The team solely consists ofSpecialist level physiotherapists and Advanced musculoskeletal practitionersworking autonomously in GP practices, with weekly supervision and trainingsessions and a pro-rota allocation of Learning and development days per year. Weare part of a GP federation (Viaduct care CIC) and align our pay grades toagenda for change and offer the NHS pension scheme, we also offer flexibleworking patterns within the hours of the GP practices.

This is a 12 month fixed termvacancyat an equivalent to AFC Band 7, salary is usually at minimum scale but may behigher dependent on experience. The post is Part-time (27 hours perweek).

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with GP Practices to include First Contact Physiotherapy as part of our patient offer. This will include seeing patients, without prior contact with their GP, to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan and is an ideal role for a motivated individual who is passionate about delivering high quality, joined up clinical management of musculoskeletal conditions.

Patients are signposted directly to the FCP clinics by GP reception and practice staff and you will be providing frontline expert screening, assessment and management including diagnostics and injection therapy.

Regular clinical supervision, mentoring and professional development is a key part of the service in keeping with the FCP road map and MSK competency framework; weekly team meetings are diarised with in- service training and case discussion.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

To work as a FirstContact Practitioner MSK Physiotherapist to assess and manage patientspresenting with musculoskeletal presentations to the Viaduct Care service.

To assess, treat andmanage patients with musculoskeletal presentations.

To work with theMusculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist to service developments in line withnational/local criteria and initiatives to meet the needs of the localpopulation.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Clinical

Provide assessment,diagnosis and management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions requiringsenior physiotherapy expertise and knowledge. This may involve patients withpsychosocial issues requiring a high level of concentration and sensitivity.

To deliver physiotherapyclinics in Primary Care in order to manage referred patients withmusculoskeletal conditions.

Initiate a physiotherapytreatment programme (including provision of injection therapy whereappropriate) which may include signposting to relevant services and undertakeevaluation of clinical outcomes to treatment.

Maintain accurate andup-to-date patient records in line with Viaduct Care policy.

To provide effectiveonward referral into the wider Stockport Physiotherapy musculoskeletal servicewhere applicable.

To refer to otherspecialities when required. This willinvolve analysis of a number of factors to determine the appropriatespeciality.

To contribute to theprocess of development, implementation and maintenance of clinical standardswithin the area of speciality.

To maintain professionalknowledge by keeping up-to-date with developments in line with clinicalgovernance requirements especially in the field of musculoskeletal conditions.

To provide expert adviceto colleagues within physiotherapy and the musculoskeletal field and otherprofessionals as required.

To maintain close linkswith Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapists, GPs within the PCNs the PCNteam and other Stockport health care professionals.

To contribute to thedevelopment and implementation of uni-professional and multi-professionalguidelines within the area of speciality.

Organisational

To contribute todeveloping and reviewing pathways of care for musculoskeletal services inconjunction with the Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist, GP PCN Lead,Secondary Care Consultants, other Physiotherapy colleagues and Health CareProfessionals in line with the Organisational, Regional and Nationalobjectives.

To contribute to thedevelopment and implementation and review of policies and procedures for theViaduct Care service.

To keep up-to-date andaccurate statistical records.

Provide data, informationand reports as required by GP PCN Lead.

Clinical and Practice Governance

To actively participatein clinical governance in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Observe and maintainstrict confidentiality with regards to any patient / family / staff / recordsand information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

Any data that is taken /shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferredelectronically must be undertaken with regard to Viaduct Care InformationGovernance and Information Security policies.

The post holder mustadhere to Viaduct Care risk assessment and risk management processes.

It is a condition of youremployment that you are currently registered with the Health and Care ProfessionsCouncil (HCPC) and it is your responsibility to maintain your professionalregistration.

Undertake mandatorytraining and any other training relevant to the role as required by ViaductCare.

Provide patients andtheir families / carers with information on standards they should expect fromthe team.

Participate in clinicalsupervision on a regular basis.

Communication

To utilise excellentcommunication skills to provide complex and sensitive information where thereare significant barriers to acceptance.

Contribute to ViaductCares internal communication strategies ensuring effective two-waycommunication and engagement within the organisation.

Contribute to ViaductCares external communication strategies to raise awareness and promote thereputation of its services.

Training and Development

To take part in thetraining of other staff within the Viaduct Care service relevant to the role,including lecturing, teaching, training and supporting other members of themultidisciplinary team e.g. Practice Managers, GPs.

Be responsible formaintaining own competency by attending in-service training, peer review,individual training and courses.

Undertake any othertraining, which may be relevant to the job role and gain necessary skills tofurther develop the service.

To attend nationalspecial interest groups and international conferences as appropriate.

Patient and Public Engagement

To ensure thatresponsibilities to engage and consult with patients and the public are met inline with statutory requirements.

Audit and Research

To undertake audit tomonitor standards of the Viaduct Care service as required.

To participate inmultidisciplinary audit in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy asappropriate.

To promote research andcritical evaluation of all clinical practices related to musculoskeletalphysiotherapy and ensure that service provision is evidence based.

Human Resources

Participate in therecruitment and retention of staff and assist in the induction of new staffincorporating the necessary statutory and Viaduct Care policies and procedures.

Deal with complaints inassociation with the GP PCN Lead in a positive and sensitive way in accordancewith organisational policy.

Maintain own professionaldevelopment and requirement to take part in appraisal process.

Confidentiality and Compliance with the DataProtection Act 1984

The post holder must maintain confidentiality regardinginformation about patients, staff and other Viaduct Care business inaccordance with the Data Protection Act 1984.

All employees of Viaduct Care must not, without prior permission,disclose any information regarding patients or staff. In circumstances where it is known that amember of staff has communicated information to an unauthorised person,those staff will be liable to dismissal. Moreover, the Data Protection Act 1984also renders an individual liable to prosecution in the event ofunauthorised disclosure of information.

In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description,the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating topatients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcareworkers. They may also have accessto information relating to the practice as a business organisation.All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictlyconfidential.

Health and Safety

All employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on themunder the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure that the agreedsafety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe working environmentfor patients, visitors and employees.

Review and ensure systems are in place for the proactivemanagement of risk registers.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their ownand others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health& Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and thepractice Infection Control policy and published procedures.

Infection Control

All employees of Viaduct Care are required to contribute to themanagement of infection control and be proactive in awareness raising andprevention.

Ensure that all guidelines, protocols and procedures undertakenwithin the service are in line with evidence based practice for infectioncontrol.

Safeguarding

All employees of Viaduct Care have a responsibility to protect andsafeguard vulnerable people (children and adults). They must be aware of child and adultsafeguarding procedures and must speak to the Viaduct Care Chair in thefirst instance for further advice.

Allemployees are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and toundertake additional training appropriate to their role.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Recognised Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of post-registration education, specifically in musculo-skeletal field, at Masters level or equivalent: e.g. full MACP member, Credentialed McKenzie
  • Therapist, Orthopaedic Medicine qualification, injection therapy qualification

Knowledge

  • Awareness of current initiatives within the Local and National health economy.
  • Clear evidence of Continuing Professional Development at Highly Specialist level
  • Knowledge and understanding of working in a Primary Care setting
  • Key issues and pace of change facing the NHS nationally and locally

Experience

  • Previous musculo-skeletal postgraduate experience and further of which would be at Senior grade or higher.
  • Proven advanced post-graduate skills in the assessment and treatment of musculo-skeletal conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate Leadership skills
