Applications are invited for the appointment of a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Histopathology at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 21 September 2025. The post is open to both full-time and part-time applicants. Roles are available substantively or on a locum/fixed-term basis if preferred. Job-share candidates are also welcomed. If appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards to support the management of cardiothoracic patients.
  • Share with colleagues the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Cardiothoracic Histo/Cytopathology Service and the running of relevant MDTs.
  • Experience in clinical teaching and lecturing to colleagues and undergraduates.
  • Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
  • Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

Person SpecificationQualifications
  • Registered with the GMC
  • Passed FRCPath or equivalent in histopathology
  • CCT or equivalent in histopathology, or expected within six months
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or entry expected within six months
  • Qualification in another specialty (e.g. MRCP)
  • Higher Degree (e.g. MSc, MD, PhD)
Experience
  • Training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in histo- and cytopathology.
  • Experience in cardiothoracic pathology in final year (stage D) training or relevant consultant experience.
  • Training in cardiothoracic histopathology including transplant pathology
