Argyll and Bute Council is seeking a Chargehand Mechanic to work within the busy Fleet Support Section. The successful candidate will be based at Blackhill workshop in Helensburgh and will assist the Fleet, Waste & Infrastructure team to deliver a high quality service to users by supervising the inspection, servicing, fault diagnosis and repair of all plant and vehicles used by the council and for related activities as required. This is a permanent position, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. When workload requires, the candidate will cover both Helensburgh and Dunoon areas and participate in the Winter Standby rota in Helensburgh. On occasions you may be required to work in other Argyll and Bute council workshops as directed by the workshop supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Supervise inspection, servicing, fault diagnosis and repair of plant and vehicles
- Lead and organise other mechanics
- Work across Helensburgh and Dunoon areas and participate in Winter Standby as required
- Support the Fleet, Waste & Infrastructure team to deliver efficient, high quality service
Qualifications
- Level 1 or 2 City & Guilds, or equivalent
- Motor Vehicle Repair qualification
- Time served motor vehicle mechanic
- Driving Licence, to include categories B, B+E, C1, C1+E, C
The candidate must also have experience of working in a heavy vehicle/plant environment including inspection, servicing and repair of light and heavy commercial vehicles. The candidate must be able to organise, lead and supervise other mechanics.
