Electromechanical Design Engineer – Battery Systems

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Work Arrangement: Primarily office-based (5 days/week), with flexibility considered based on operational needs

Overview

A leading global engineering organization is seeking an experienced Electromechanical Design Engineer to join its electrification and energy solutions team. This role focuses on the development of advanced battery systems and electric vehicle (EV) components for heavy-duty and industrial applications.

Role Summary

The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of battery packs and associated electrical systems. This includes working on high-voltage components, harnesses, and hardware, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting the product lifecycle from concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and model electrical components, harnesses, and assemblies using 3D CAD tools
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for EV electrical systems
  • Participate in risk assessments and validation activities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure design compliance and performance
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes related to battery technologies

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in high-voltage battery or EV powertrain design
  • Proficiency in PTC Creo (including Cabling, Schematics, Simulate, and Detailing)
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and structured product development processes
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and planning skills
