Job overview

There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, specialist physiotherapist with experience or a burning interest in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy to join the team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay. A development post from band 5 to 6 would be considered for the right applicant.

The post will be based at Furness General Hospital or Westmorland General Hospital (to be agreed on appointment), working closely with the Cross-Bay team. The post holder will manage a caseload covering Obstetrics inpatients/outpatients, Gynaecology inpatients/outpatients and group work. This includes in-patient weekend and on-call work.

The team works closely with the urogynaecology MDT, consultants, midwives and GPs. The post holder will support the development of Pelvic Health physiotherapy colleagues in the Cross Bay team.

The Cross Bay team includes 3 Advanced Physiotherapists and a team of Specialist Physiotherapy colleagues across the sites. The trust is involved in the PPHS NHS improvement programme and is currently an implementer site. An element of this role will involve working within this project.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for sharing the clinical caseload of the Pelvic Health team, assisting the implementation of service development in line with current evidence and standards, and providing training for physiotherapists, students and the wider MDT.

The role will include both in- and out-patient activity with some group work.

Duties will include supporting the Advanced Physiotherapists in team development, audit, projects and service change.

The successful applicant will be an effective team player, have the ability to use their initiative and communicate with empathy. They will embrace innovation, integrated working and be committed to following best practice to ensure patient-centred care.

Previous experience is desirable.

You will be expected to be a member of the weekend working rota, and provide public holiday cover.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal—as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI offer a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Cardiac Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services plus an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions.

All three main sites provide planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, along with local outreach services and diagnostics from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

  • Health Professional Council registered
  • Honours degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the CSP/HPC
  • Evidence of postgraduate courses
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Member of a special interest group
  • Evidence of Pelvic/Women's Health Courses or training
Experience
  • Experience as a rotational NHS Physiotherapist—inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings
  • Evidence of working in a team
  • Experience within the specialty of Pelvic Health/Women's Health

  • Ability to think quickly, assess clinical situations and take relevant decisions
