Job overview

We are looking for a dynamicBand 6 Physiotherapist to join our friendly inpatient AHP team at Wedgwood House in Bury St Edmunds. The team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapy and support staff is currently expanding - this is a brand new role.

The role is ward based, working across 2 adult wards and an older people’s ward, caring for patients with complex mental and physical health problems including frailty. You will assess, develop and plan specialist treatments and be required to carry out moving and handling assessments for service users presenting with multi-pathologies.

At Wedgwood House you will have access to a diverse, supportive multidisciplinary team and have support from local AHP leads. It is an exciting time for AHPs at NSFT following a significant investment to increase the number of posts and profile of AHPs in mental health.

A wide range of professional development opportunities are available including internal and external training and individual supervision. You will be encouraged to shape and develop this role. Clinical networks are established which will provide you with development and networking opportunities from other AHPs across the trust.

(HCPC registration and CSP membership is essential).

Main duties of the job

Within our service you will work with adult inpatients and older people who have organic (Dementia) and functional presentations such as psychosis, anxiety and mood disorders. You will have the opportunity to use your physical health training alongside the ability to communicate and engage with service users living with complex mental and physical health needs including frailty and work to tackle health inequalities.

The post holder will work under the supervision of a Band 7 AHP Clinical Team Lead and benefit from other MDT members who together enhance effectiveness and improve outcomes for our service users. You will be expected to support more junior members of the team with supervision and staff development.

Other Duties include:

  • To manage and prioritise own caseload
  • Practice assessor for Physiotherapy students
  • Maintaining service users’ safety, comfort and well-being
  • Completion of moving and handling assessments, falls, balance, neurological, MSK and respiratory assessments
  • Delivering groups and exercise programs
  • Use of community equipment provision systems (TCES equip) to facilitate transition of care during service users discharge process

As a band 6 you will be expected to support relevant workstreams (both locally and as part of the Trust wide AHP group).

Person specificationQualifications
  • MSC/BSC/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC and CSP membership
  • Background training Courses in Mental Health for Physiotherapists.
Experience
  • Broad based experience including Older persons and experience in delivering exercise programs and groups
  • Experience with Older persons, Mental Health and/or Community
Skills
  • Reasonable confidence and competence in using IT systems (e.g. Outlook, Word, clinical or other record systems) relevant to the role.
  • Manual Handling experience of complex problem solving associated
Knowledge
  • Clinical knowledge and experience of physiotherapy for Older persons.
  • An understanding of the policies & guidelines both local & national that can affect older people
