Responsibilities

The Community Respiratory Service is an integrated team of physiotherapists, nurses & support staff who deliver pulmonary rehabilitation, COPD optimisation, respiratory virtual ward, home oxygen & respiratory physiotherapy for people out of hospital. That may be in clinics, community venues or people’s homes.

You will be working with a team passionate about delivering community care to patients living with chronic respiratory conditions, supporting each other, problem solving with complex patients, and working closely with Consultant‑led palliative care colleagues.

Due to the nature of community work and the locations for our clinics, a driving licence & access to a car are essential.

This post will primarily focus on pulmonary rehabilitation classes which are provided in a range of venues across North East Essex, though you may also be asked to carry out home visits for assessment/review within your scope of skills.

You will complete assessment, care planning, education and interventions to support respiratory management and liaison with other healthcare professionals. You need to be able to work autonomously as a lone worker on home visits and at weekends, but support is available from the team and division colleagues when needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

You should have skills in engaging with people, putting them at ease and motivational skills, and be able to use a problem‑solving/asset‑based approach to help people overcome barriers to pulmonary rehabilitation.

You should have a good grasp of the principles of pulmonary rehabilitation and be familiar with and able to discuss the British Thoracic Society guidelines for pulmonary rehabilitation.

Additional requirements: a valid driving licence, access to a car, ability to work independently, and willingness to work evenings (anticipated to finish before 8 pm) and weekends as scheduled.

Working Hours

The service currently runs 9:00‑17:00, with potential evening work and weekend duties as scheduled. Rostering is planned in advance.
