Purpose of the Role

The Senior Mechanical Requirements Engineer is a crucial role in Mechanical Design Team. This role requires a high level of analytical and critical thinking.

This role is required to lead engineering activities within the scope of a defined project, including coordination of resources, planning of timelines, and delivery of engineering milestones and support team and company initiatives with a similar approach. The Senior Mechanical Requirements Engineer will have a direct impact on the company’s ability to design, develop, and deliver safe, reliable, and high-performance battery systems to customers.

This is a hybrid working role that will be based in our Coventry office. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of sustainable energy solutions in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Key Responsibility Areas
  • Be the primary point of contact between mechanical design team and systems engineering team.
  • Analyse system requirements and further decompose as needed to translate to mechanical design requirements to be used by the mechanical design team.
  • Support the mechanical design team by developing architecture and concepts that are compliant with the requirements created.
  • Manage the mechanical design requirements and targets for different projects from the systems requirements breakdown phase, going through the mechanical design up to the verification phases following the Me-SPICE processes.
  • Ensure that the requirements are clear, direct and robust to avoid ambiguity and mistakes.
  • Ensure that the requirements are met and that the evidence is clear, direct and properly stored in our ALM software (i.e.) Polarion and supporting full traceability.
  • Provide leadership that makes use of his/her extensive background in electrical, thermal and structural engineering.
  • Take proactive ownership and work independently and with low supervision, being an example to less experienced engineers.
  • Lead, manage, control and maintain his/her deliverables, using escalation appropriately.
  • Deliver tasks on time, within the Agratas NPI gateways and PM framework, applying systems engineering (ISO15288) approach and adherence to the delivery standards as applied across the organisation, to meet ISO9001, ITAF16949
  • Support the adherences to APQP, Functional Safety (ISO26262), Cyber Security (ISO21434), and Me-SPICE.
  • Lead continuous improvement of his/her deliverables throughout the projects.
  • Contribute to the development of the Mechanical design team capability including the development of people, tools, and processes.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Degree (BEng, MEng, MSc) in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field)
  • High Voltage (HV) Safety Training & Certification (e.g., HV Awareness, HV Working, or equivalent) – or willingness to obtain as the job role requires
  • Proven experience in technical leadership roles, particularly in automotive, EV battery systems, or powertrain domains
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills; able to own assignments, lead by example to become a reference of positive mindset and can-do attitude.
  • Experience of working with cross-functional teams spread geographically across the globe.
  • Proven experience with requirements decomposition and verification process.
  • Prior experience designing and delivering hv battery components to time, quality, performance and cost objectives while engaging a broader stakeholder group.
  • Experience with DFx and capable of identifying critical requirements in advance of multidisciplinary teams’ engagement
  • Experience of delivering projects within NPI frameworks to a gateway methodology using Systems Engineering approach (ISO15288).
  • Demonstrate effective presentation, communication and reporting skills adaptable to suite the audience.
  • Experience of product development projects including APQP, product safety (awareness of ISO26262), Cyber Security (ISO21434), Me-SPICE.
  • Experienced in HV battery systems design and prototyping (DFMEA, PDU, HV/LV components), with exposure to design and release activities and a proven ability to thrive in fast-paced start-up environments through resilience, diligence, and a strong team-oriented mindset.
