Matter is expanding its network of contractors to support the development of innovative microplastic filter products. If you're an independent freelancer or contractor based in Bristol and seeking paid work, we'd love to hear from you.

At Matter, we're tackling microfibre pollution at its source by creating solutions to protect the environment. We have multiple upcoming opportunities for temporary contract roles and are particularly interested in Senior Mechanical Engineers.

Key Responsibilities

We're looking for individuals who can commit full-time and work on-site at our Bristol facility. This work will involve close collaboration with our in-house team and often include hands-on lab testing. Projects include developing products for the laundry sector to engineering industrial filtration systems for the textiles industry, for which you would be responsible for delivering independent work packages.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Experience

  • Proven record at leading the technical delivery of projects, with experience owning the product deliverables and key engineering documents.
  • Experience applying general mechanical engineering principles, including fluid dynamics and mechanics.
  • Experience developing complex mechanical systems with an understanding of the commissioning requirements for end use installation of machinery.
  • Understanding of how virtual and physical prototyping, and functional testing can be used to support technology development and optimise designs.
  • Experience with designing for metal fabrication and producing technical drawings.
  • Skilled at designing, building and testing system level functional prototypes, with a high proficiency in hand fabrication, 3D printing and ability to outsource production where required.
  • Experience developing test schedules and new test methods for both investigative and validation testing.
  • Experience working with standards and regulations for product compliance.
  • A high standard of CAD including parametric and surface modelling.

Desirable experience

  • Appreciation of systems engineering principles.
  • Experience working in filtration and/or water systems.
  • Simulation experience in FEA, CFD, or other.
