We are recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer with design experience in the water sector on a permanent basis.

Role Accountabilities

  1. Project Delivery
    • Collaborate with other discipline engineers and manage quality through the design workflow review to achieve time, cost, and quality standards.
    • Ensure that the mechanical deliverables are produced to the required standards and specifications.
    • Check mechanical and hydraulic systems, including pumping systems, plant, building services, and ensure they are completed to an appropriate level of detail and compliance.
    • Review integrated supplier packages and 3D models to ensure quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to, including DSEAR compliance.
    • Check mechanical documentation such as basis of design, specifications, work scope, and schedules.
    • Review construction site design queries and change requests to ensure quick and accurate responses, maintaining design suitability.
    • Support the Senior Design Manager and Design Managers in forecasting and allocating resources effectively.
    • Assist Project Design Managers and other engineering disciplines in planning and managing the design delivery, and stakeholder management regarding mechanical design acceptance.
    • Seek support and guidance from the Principal Mechanical Engineer.
    • Contribute to the creation and review of supplier contracts and deliverables.
  2. Health & Safety (CDM)
    • Promote excellence in health, safety, and welfare for mechanical engineering.
    • Ensure designs comply with relevant mechanical standards and regulations, including DSEAR (if trained and competent).
    • Participate in Construction Design Management (CDM) meetings and support preparation of design risk assessments and Pre-Construction Information.
    • Develop designer alerts for lessons learned.
  3. Personal & Team Development
    • Assist the Senior Design Manager in recruiting Senior Mechanical Engineers and Mechanical Engineers.
  4. Qualifications & Experience
    • An engineering degree or equivalent experience demonstrating degree-level ability.
    • Preferably Chartered or working towards Chartered status.
    • Experience with water-sector assets and capital projects.
    • Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
    • Experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
    • Experience in a Design & Build environment is advantageous but not essential.
  5. Competencies & Skills

    • Management: People management, engineering management, quality assurance, risk mitigation.
    • Technical: Design production, output quality, innovation.
