As we prepare for the challenges and opportunities of AMP8, we're looking for talented individuals to shape the future of water infrastructure.

At Anglian Water, we’re Always Exploring — Doing The Right Thing and Building Trust through a culture that prioritises health, safety and wellbeing. We recognise and reward our people fairly and transparently.

Your Purpose

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer within one of our four business units, you’ll lead technical delivery, drive sustainable and cost-effective design decisions, and mentor junior engineers to deliver work that is safe, future-proof and built to last.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and review mechanical designs to ensure compliance, safety, and performance excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to high quality standards.
  • Promote the use of digital tools and modular construction techniques.
  • Drive health and safety by design, identifying improvements and reducing whole-life costs.
  • Champion sustainability, carbon reduction, and innovation across the design lifecycle.
  • Mentor junior engineers and create a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Work closely with project and engineering leaders, contributing to strategic decisions.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Preferably chartered, or working towards chartered status.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design—ideally in the water sector or similar complex infrastructure environment.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, health and safety legislation, and construction principles.
  • Leadership experience with a passion for coaching, mentoring and developing others.
  • Proficiency in CAD and engineering software.
  • Confident decision-maker, with a collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.

Business Units

Depending on your skills, experience, and interests, you could be aligned to one of our four business units:

  • Place Based Thinking — The Place Based Thinking team delivers some of the largest and most complex projects across the @one Alliance. Made up of six Senior Project Manager teams, we oversee 19 catchments, covering key sites such as Whitlingham, Flag Fen, Great Billing, Cotton Valley, Bedford, Colchester, and Ipswich Cliff Quays. These projects involve managing all parts of the network from rising and gravity mains, pumping stations, high spilling overflows, and water recycling centres.
  • Water — The Water Business Unit provides strategic support across the clean water network, covering both system performance and infrastructure planning. We assess the future hydraulic state of the network in response to population growth and increased demand, support the design and delivery of capital and infrastructure schemes to ensure hydraulic resilience, and work with optimisation teams to enhance overall network efficiency.
  • Water Recycling (East and West) — Our Water Recycling Business Unit, split into East and West regions, is responsible for the collection, conveyance, and treatment of wastewater across an extensive network. We operate over 76,000 km of sewerage infrastructure and 1,163 treatment centres, ensuring safe and sustainable discharge to the environment while driving innovation and environmental performance.

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the UK’s most successful capital delivery alliances. You’ll contribute to cutting-edge projects that shape the future of water infrastructure, working alongside a team of experts across disciplines. We offer a culture that values innovation, continuous learning, and professional growth, with a focus on delivering sustainable solutions that make a positive environmental impact.

Safety and Wellbeing

Anglian Water @one Alliance prioritises health, safety and wellbeing. We aim to be safer every day and to make positive choices to protect ourselves and those around us.

Edge Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK edge computing hiring has moved from tool‑lists to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise resilient edge architectures, real‑time data pipelines, secure device fleets, container/Kubernetes at the edge, on‑device/near‑edge ML, and measurable business impact (latency, reliability, cost‑to‑serve). This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for edge platform engineers, IoT/OT engineers, edge SREs, embedded/firmware engineers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/private LTE), security specialists & product managers. Who this is for: Edge platform/SRE, IoT solution architects, embedded/firmware developers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/SD‑WAN), security engineers (OT/ICS), data/streaming engineers, site deployment/field engineers & edge product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Edge Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For years, computing innovation was focused on the cloud. But as demand for real-time analytics, low-latency processing and secure local data handling grows, edge computing has become the next frontier. From autonomous vehicles to healthcare monitoring devices, retail checkout systems to industrial IoT, edge computing is transforming how data is processed and used in the UK. This shift has also changed what it means to work in the field. Edge computing careers are no longer purely technical. They now require knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design, as professionals must consider regulation, human behaviour, communication & usability alongside engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why UK edge computing careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five fields intersect with edge roles, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Edge Computing Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Edge Computing Department

Edge computing is expanding rapidly in the UK, driven by demands for low latency, on-site processing, IoT proliferation, autonomous systems, 5G, AI inference on devices, and regulatory pressures for data sovereignty. Businesses in sectors such as telecoms, industrial automation, retail, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are pushing computation and intelligence closer to where data is generated. But to design, build, deploy, secure, and maintain edge computing systems requires more than just hardware or software — it requires structured teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. If you’re hiring, or applying for roles via EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, understanding who does what in a mature edge computing department will help you plan better, show relevance in job applications, and build resilient teams. This article covers the key roles in edge computing teams, how they collaborate through the project lifecycle, what skills and qualifications UK employers usually expect, salary benchmarks, challenges and trends, and best practices for structuring effective edge teams.
