A well‑established manufacturer of bespoke industrial machinery, supplying high‑performance equipment to leading manufacturers worldwide. The business is expanding its engineering capabilities and has launched a new Design Centre, investing in innovation.


Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the development of custom‑built machinery within specialist manufacturing. You'll be responsible for signing new machines and improving existing systems, collaborating with cross‑functional teams across the UK and internationally. The role includes project leadership, technical problem‑solving, and occasional site visits for testing and support. You will have the opportunity to visit sites abroad should you wish to take that opportunity.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of custom‑built machinery
  • Sign new machines and improve existing systems
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across the UK and internationally
  • Provide project leadership, technical problem‑solving and occasional site visits for testing and support

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical engineering background, ideally from machine‑building or related sector
  • 8+ years of experience as a design engineer (training provided)
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software; familiar with sheet metal, structural frameworks and large assemblies
  • Leadership experience, project planning skills, and ability to work to deadlines

Additional desirable skills

  • Understanding of machine safety standards and tolerancing
  • AutoCAD experience for layout work
  • Engineering calculations and Excel proficiency
  • FEA and CFD simulation experience
