Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services (District Heating / Commercial Projects) – London Hybrid – Paying up to 65k.


Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with strong knowledge of district heating and communal heat networks? This role is with a forward–thinking consultancy at the forefront of sustainable building services and low–carbon design. You will join a dedicated Heat Networks team delivering innovative solutions on commercial and mixed–use projects, taking a lead role in the design, optimisation, and assurance of communal heat networks.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of new–build and refurbished heat networks, ensuring performance, compliance, and energy efficiency.
  • Act in a quality assurance and technical monitoring role, reviewing contractor design packages, undertaking site inspections, andWitnessing testing/commissioning.
  • Carry out post–occupancy performance reviews, identify improvements and troubleshoot issues.
  • Support clients with funding applications for government–backed decarbonisation schemes.
  • Help shape internal design standards, procedures, and technical tools.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers as the team expands.

About You

My client is looking for someone passionate about building services engineering and the future of low–carbon energy solutions. You should be comfortable at the drawing board and on site, able to collaborate confidently with clients, contractors, and project teams.



  • Experience as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in building services (or an Intermediate Engineer ready to step up).
  • Strong technical knowledge of heating systems and district/communal heat networks.
  • Experience of on–site inspection, monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Progress towards, or achievement of, Chartered Engineer status.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing clear technical reports.
