Technical Services Manager (TSM) / BSM / Design Engineer


We offer a range of services to enhance profitability through the procurement of a combined M&E package. The majority of our revenue is presently derived from Mechanical installations, predominantly air conditioning and ventilation services. Our design team and air conditioning partners such as Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Daikin help us offer best value for money on our key services. We have an extensive range of abilities from working within occupied offices, new builds, high security sectors, healthcare, motor retail and the like. By working with clients from the initial consultation to a full design spec and cost estimate, our engineering team can ensure they benefit from our design experience and proactive approach with the aim of saving both time and money. Our expert project management team then takes over, providing exceptional management services throughout the project, whether on a new build, fit out, building refurbishment, or plant replacement project. We\'ve built a reputation for high-quality installation, delivery and engineering and we put the experience we\'ve gained over many years in the industry to work for you. Our design engineers help our clients reach their end goal, advising on all aspects of bespoke design and offering a range of options tailored to their building. With our team accredited by all types of manufacturers we can help advise our clients on the best application.


Role

  • To provide technical support from the date of enquiry to post handover to the client.
  • Review enquiries / tenders, these may conceptually be fully designed by the client team, or clean sheet schemes, and assist in evolving a solution that meets the client requirements.
  • Assist in the development of company systems and procedures.
  • Full knowledge of HVAC industry is essential, knowledge of parallel mechanical systems (and electrical systems) is desirable.
  • Attend site to survey existing and proposed installations, meet client team, etc.
  • Coordinate designs with partner professionals (Hevacomp, etc.) and supply partners (air-con equipment selections, etc.).
  • Assist in evaluating the technical aspects of supply chain quotes to ensure our submission is robust, best value and deliverable.
  • Assist in returning PQQs and create presentation documents including designs, specifications, equipment schedules, assumptions / qualifications, cost / value engineering options, etc.
  • Highlight preferred partners, long lead items, risks and opportunities.
  • Attend various meetings pre and post contract to assist delivery and build client confidence.
  • Support the team where necessary drafting proposals for client review, Landlord approval, Building Regs submission and the like - specifications, drawings, programme of works, etc.
  • Relevant degree.
  • Previous experience within the construction sector is essential.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Ability to build good relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

Aspects of work

Pre-Contract



  • Prepare M&E tender documents for D&B projects as and when necessary.
  • Undertake technical review of clients\' documentation and specifications, producing commentary and guidance on the risks and complications posed.
  • Identify Value Engineering Options.
  • Attend client site visits.
  • Attend client interviews.
  • Undertake analysis of sub-contractor quotations, make recommendations regarding contractor selection.
  • Comment on procurement schedules.
  • Comment on installation programmes.
  • Manage / review M&E design process.
  • Manage and review the validation process - clarify the scope of what validation covers.

Post Contract

  • Review final package scope and cost for all MEP works.
  • Assist with final selection of supply chain partners.
  • Assist in the suitable procurement of materials, labour and services from specialist sub-contractors / consultants. Improve our buying (price and service levels) without resorting to post contract subby bashing.
  • Comment on MEP sub-contractor\'s financial variations and final account.
  • Manage new power, gas, water and telecoms services to site (if applicable).
  • Review & assist - Technical Design - MEP element of online document control systems.
  • Attend client progress meetings including the production of a MEP progress report for inclusion within the PM\'s report.
  • Monitor MEP progress on site.
  • Manage MEP close out / commissioning; develop a schedule of what\'s expected and comment on commissioning programmes.
  • Facilitate MEP client training.
