QA Test Engineer (Hardware IOT & Software)

This role sits within a new, groundbreaking tech-led initiative aimed at redefining the standards of care delivery in mental health environments. By leveraging radar technology as a non-visual patient safety aid, this innovative System as a Service (SaaS) platform seeks to address critical challenges in patient safety, clinical efficiency, and operational scalability.

Role Summary:

They’re at an exciting stage in our growth journey and looking to make the most of their market presence. They are looking for a versatile Test Engineer to join the team in Glasgow to help accelerate them along this journey.

You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, and you will be responsible for the test and verification of all hardware & software assets. You will be capable of developing quality test cases and test strategies for embedded firmware, mobile applications (Android, IOS), and supporting services for both web-based and on-premises components. Ideally with capability to provide both automated and manual testing to provide as large test coverage as possible. The product portfolio is critical to life and to improve the quality of care in the mental health sector; therefore, an understanding of testing following risk-based processes is ideal.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with a cross functional team of engineers, to develop industry leading products. This includes making sure acceptance criteria within high level product design inputs are testable.

  • Lead the testing strategy related to software components within the product portfolio.

  • Creating and executing test protocols from software requirements.

  • Develop regression test suites to ensure consistent functionality across software releases and hardware devices, enabling early detection of defects and supporting continuous integration and delivery.

  • Design and execute test suites specifically for medical device software, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and validating safety-critical functionality."

  • Evaluation and recommendation of test tools.

  • Provide automation through CI/CD.

  • Collaborate with the wider team to produce internal and external documentation such as bug reports, release notes and test summary reports.

  • Support improved test coverage through collaboration with customers and third-party testing teams, where appropriate.

  • Support engineering teams during the deployment and commissioning of IoT systems, ensuring smooth integration and configuration."

  • Diagnose and resolve issues encountered in real-world environments, providing hands-on troubleshooting and technical guidance.

  • Provide support to the wider engineering teams for deployments and commissioning of IoT systems. Troubleshoot issues in the real world

  • Take ownership of verification and validation processes to allow for a lean efficient process that provides a high level of quality within a regulated industry.

  • Hardware Testing

  • RR & Lab Testing

  • Network Diagnostics

  • Sensor Systems / Radar device-led hardware

  • Versatility - a passion for working across boundaries to deliver award-winning products that make a meaningful difference in the world

  • A degree in an engineering, mechatronics or data science discipline is preferred (or equivalent experience)

  • A minimum of 5 years industry experience is preferred, including practical experience of testing and troubleshooting

  • Knowledge of Test-Driven Development and Behaviour Driven development

  • Knowledge of programming/scripting experience, primarily for testing, with a language such as C, Java or Python.

  • Knowledge of testing tools such as Appium, Selenium or Playwright

  • Can develop BDD using cucumber/gherkin

  • Knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT).

  • Have the ability to mock hardware devices
