Principal Mechanical Engineer (Energy) – WSP UK & Ireland

WSP, a global engineering and professional services firm, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy Transition Team. You will lead the development of mechanical designs on a wide range of energy projects from inception through decommissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the project team to develop cost‑effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Lead projects in various stages: feasibility studies, concept designs, FEED studies, value engineering and detailed design.
  • Prepare mechanical deliverables such as calculations, equipment specifications and datasheets for turbines, compressors, pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with process engineers to develop process flow diagrams and P&ID’s.
  • Support plant layout development and 3‑D modelling.
  • Engage with equipment vendors on design packages and perform technical evaluations of vendor designs.
  • Provide engineering advice on plant integrity issues for operational assets.
  • Develop proposals and bids for the mechanical discipline and contribute to multi‑disciplinary proposals.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering subject.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and membership of a relevant Engineering Institute.
  • Post‑graduate experience in power generation or oil & gas industry.
  • Knowledge of national and international design codes and standards for plant equipment and piping.
  • Experience in pressure vessel and piping design and stress analysis.
  • Experience working with mechanical designers and pipe stress engineers on plant 3‑D models.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MathCAD, and scheduling/create datasheets.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving plant operational integrity issues.
