Our client, based in central Manchester, requires a Principal Mechanical Engineer from the Building Services / FM sector. The role will oversee mechanical service contracts & compliance, with an emphasis on Mechanical & Pressure systems maintenance whilst overseeing contractors on site covering Gas, Water, HVAC & compressed systems. It is a working for the Facilities Division of a Multi-site organisation we have dealt with for the last 20 years. This is a long term contract role initially and will pay between £25.37-29.38 / hr PAYE (37 hour week). During the contract period, the engineer in post will be considered for the permanent role when it is advertised internally in 2026. In summary, this position would suit someone who has worked in a FM / Building Services role who has solid mechanical engineering knowledge (ideally degree qualified) coupled with experience of contractor management, statutory regulations & management of mechanical service contracts / SLAs.


Responsibilities

  • Organising contractor site inspections and managing contractors to maintain compliance and SLAs.
  • Assist head of department in strategic & operational maintenance of site, including provision of surveys, project management and responsibility for updating mechanical standard requirement documents.
  • Ensuring mechanical records, reports, design and installation specifications are maintained in line with current legislation & industry standards.
  • Oversee reactive works whilst making sure all compliance and legal provisions are met.
  • Looking after mechanical Risk Assessments, Method statements & organising Safe systems of working / Permits to work.
  • Able to produce monthly reports related to ongoing compliance.
  • Identify risk areas and monitor to improve mechanical department performance.

Desired Educational Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer or Degree level qualification Mechanical Engineering, building services or equivalent discipline.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH certification (desirable).
