Create job alert

Machnet Medical Robotics (MMR), founded in 2020, is on a mission to revolutionize medical robotics. Our guiding principle is simple: innovation must improve patient outcomes, support clinicians without disrupting workflows, and empower healthcare staff rather than adding burden.

MMR is a well-funded company with long-term investors and a strong financial foundation. Our talented hardware and software team has successfully developed a fully functional prototype of our medical robotic platform, which has already undergone successful animal trials. With the prototype validated, we are now entering the next phase: perfecting the mechanical design for production, ensuring safety, reliability, manufacturability, and scalability as we prepare to bring our technology to hospitals worldwide.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with expertise in medical robotics to join our team in central London. As a vital member of our engineering team, your primary focus will be on developing and optimising mechanical systems for various projects spanning different sectors. Your engineering development experience and ability to navigate diverse challenges will be instrumental in driving our projects from conception to realisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the design and development of mechanical components and systems for various engineering projects.
  • Utilise rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling) to fabricate prototypes and iterate designs for improved functionality.
  • Take ownership of design decisions, material selection, and manufacturing processes to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of engineers and stakeholders to drive innovation and seamless integration of mechanical systems.
  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to the engineering team.
  • Develop and implement engineering best practices and standards to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers to support project requirements.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and events, showcasing our technological advancements and innovations.

What We Are Looking For

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience designing and developing complex electromechanical systems, particularly in medical devices.
  • Proficiency in utilising rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC milling.
  • Deep understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, including injection moulding and scalable manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficiency in parametric CAD design software (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Strong team player with a proactive attitude towards problem-solving in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proven track record of leading successful engineering projects from concept to production.
  • Availability and eligibility to work at our central London office.

Experiences We Value

  • Extensive experience with diverse mechanical systems and components, especially in the context of medical robotics.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Prior experience in the medical device industry is highly desirable.
  • Start-up experience or the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience in securing patents and intellectual property related to mechanical designs.

Why Join Us?

At MMR, you’ll work at the intersection of robotics, AI, and healthcare. You will build data systems that directly enable life-changing technology in hospitals. You’ll be part of a collaborative, impact-driven team, where your technical expertise will shape the future of medical robotics.

Equally important, we believe that technology must serve people responsibly. At MMR, we value human-centered innovation, moral integrity, and long-term responsibility. This applies not only to how we design our products, but also to how we treat our employees: with respect, care, and a commitment to their well-being and growth.

What We Offer

  • Join an international and interdisciplinary team based in the Netherlands (Zwolle) and Central London fostering a collaborative and innovative work culture.
  • Contribute to a rapidly growing medical device startup with ambitious global impact goals, making a significant difference in healthcare.
  • A central London office with a well-equipped prototyping space. Access continuous learning and professional development through training programs, workshops, and conferences.
  • Thrive in an inclusive and diverse workplace that values and supports every team member.
  • An attractive salary package, competitive with industry standards.

Why Edge Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For years, computing innovation was focused on the cloud. But as demand for real-time analytics, low-latency processing and secure local data handling grows, edge computing has become the next frontier. From autonomous vehicles to healthcare monitoring devices, retail checkout systems to industrial IoT, edge computing is transforming how data is processed and used in the UK. This shift has also changed what it means to work in the field. Edge computing careers are no longer purely technical. They now require knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design, as professionals must consider regulation, human behaviour, communication & usability alongside engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why UK edge computing careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five fields intersect with edge roles, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Edge Computing Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Edge Computing Department

Edge computing is expanding rapidly in the UK, driven by demands for low latency, on-site processing, IoT proliferation, autonomous systems, 5G, AI inference on devices, and regulatory pressures for data sovereignty. Businesses in sectors such as telecoms, industrial automation, retail, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are pushing computation and intelligence closer to where data is generated. But to design, build, deploy, secure, and maintain edge computing systems requires more than just hardware or software — it requires structured teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. If you’re hiring, or applying for roles via EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, understanding who does what in a mature edge computing department will help you plan better, show relevance in job applications, and build resilient teams. This article covers the key roles in edge computing teams, how they collaborate through the project lifecycle, what skills and qualifications UK employers usually expect, salary benchmarks, challenges and trends, and best practices for structuring effective edge teams.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Edge Computing Jobs Hub

Edge computing is one of the most important technological shifts of the decade. As connected devices, sensors, and the Internet of Things (IoT) generate massive volumes of data, centralised cloud computing alone cannot always keep up. Businesses and governments need faster processing, lower latency, and secure, real-time insights. Edge computing—where data is processed closer to where it is generated—is the answer. From autonomous vehicles and smart cities to advanced healthcare and industrial automation, edge computing underpins the next wave of digital transformation. For professionals, this means an entirely new field of opportunity. Edge computing requires engineers, architects, analysts, cyber security specialists, and operations staff with highly specialised skills. The United Kingdom is particularly well-positioned to become a global edge computing jobs hub. With its strong infrastructure, thriving tech ecosystem, leading universities, and government commitment to digital innovation, the UK has many of the ingredients necessary to lead. This article explores why the UK could claim global leadership in edge computing careers, the sectors driving demand, and what must happen to make this vision a reality.
