Job Summary

Harrow Rapid Response is a national leader in intermediate care that aims to bring the best of hospital care to a patient\'s home and therefore avoid unnecessary hospital attendances/admissions. The team performs initial holistic assessments, may start treatment plans within 2 hours of referral, and uses diagnostic equipment in the home as well as hospital facilities when required. The service provides care similar to in-patient care with real time access to patient records in the community.

Main duties of the job

This post will be within the HUCRT/A&E service. To work as a therapy technician in HUCRT, supporting patients to regain and sustain their levels of function. To be involved in assessing patients, defining treatment needs in relation to therapy and carrying out this treatment, maintaining clinical records. Undertake learning of new skills including nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy skills, and planning social care packages in agreement with social services. Work in close partnership with hospital colleagues and external agencies (Social Services, CCG, Housing Associations, GPs and voluntary organisations). You will be expected to work collaboratively with patients, carers and with colleagues in health and social services to ensure effective service planning, policy and delivery of services to their patient group. The post holder may be involved with assessment and treatment for patients with a wide range of complex physical, sensory, perceptual and cognitive problems in A&E and community settings, including some inpatient assessments.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

  • Essential: Technical qualification e.g. NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent core skills gained through work experience with patients in a hospital or community setting

Experience

  • Essential: Ability to teach practical skills to patients
  • Ability to work single-handedly with individuals/groups in a supportive environment
  • Understanding of professional conduct
  • Health/safety and risk awareness
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Understanding of patients\' rehabilitation needs
  • Ability to work within occasionally unpleasant conditions such as odours and body fluids

Knowledge and Skills

  • Group work skills
  • Basic IT skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
