At WSP, we are leaders in supporting energy infrastructure projects across the UK and globally. We are seeking an Offshore Cable Project / Mechanical Engineer to join our team of over 480 engineering professionals.


A Little More About Your Role

As an Offshore Cable Project / Mechanical Engineer, you will provide day‑to‑day hardware design expertise to the Offshore Cables Engineering team, make key technical decisions, and support Project Managers and the Lead Offshore Engineer with deliverables specific to HVAC / HVDC Offshore Cable elements. The role is client‑facing and requires strong communication skills.


Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Conduct detailed design engineering for new projects, collaborating with other departments to ensure understanding of all customer and project requirements.
  • Support the Project Manager with progress updating of Engineering Deliverables throughout the project lifecycle and provide updates to monthly reporting.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior team members and transfer knowledge.
  • Review client specifications, vendor documentation, and engage with vendors as required.
  • Travel to client’s offices or site alongside potential vendor engagement.

General Deliverables

  • Electrical and mechanical design documents, calculations, specifications, and report writing for HVAC and HVDC cables in accordance with industry standards.
  • Pull‑in calculations and windfarm layout designs.
  • General arrangement drawings, scope of supply drawings, and cable accessories specification generation.
  • Cable protection system specification generation to support procurement activities.
  • Installation, operation, and maintenance procedure or guideline generation.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Understanding of HVAC Inter Array Cable and Export cable design, specifications, and requirements for 66kV – 132kV HVAC cables.
  • Experience with HVDC Interconnectors up to 525kV, including design basis, reports, and current rating calculations.
  • Knowledge of cable cores, sheath, armour, and outer layers, and ability to perform static and dynamic cable calculations.
  • Strong coordination and interface skills with internal departments, vendors, and clients.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and other cable analysis software packages.
