Multiskilled Maintenance Technician with mechanical bias sought by a recycling facility in Runcorn. This subsidiary of an international, GBP multibillion turnover plastics manufacturer is focused on growing the circular economy and sees innovation within PVC recycling as pivotal to its global sustainability strategy.


This is a permanent role on weekly rotating shifts (6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm) known formally within the business as Mechanical Technician.


Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical tasks such as bearing replacements on conveyor belts and motor gearbox replacements as part of a multifunctional team.
  • Perform TPM tasks to ensure maximum OEE is achieved.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production teams and external contractors for timely issue resolution.
  • Follow strict Health and Safety guidelines, conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safe work practices.
  • Install, calibrate and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems including motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs and control panels.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and instrumentation faults across a variety of systems.
  • Perform routine testing, calibration and validation of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all electrical and instrumentation work: maintenance logs, calibration reports, work orders and spare parts stores management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including Electricity at Work Regulations, IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and company policies.
  • Work on the rotating shift pattern (6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm).

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical engineering bias with some electrical experience.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with electrical drawings and schematics.

Desirable but not essential:



  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • City and Guilds 2391 (Inspection and Testing) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience in an electrical and instrumentation role across multiple sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems and instrumentation technologies.
  • Instrumentation certification, COMPEX certification.
  • Experience working in hazardous environments (ATEX).
  • Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems and automation.
