MEG Manufacturing Technician (Electronics Electromechanical Inspector) position at Leonardo in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business is based in Edinburgh and is one of the world’s top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infrared countermeasure systems. Within Operations we turn innovative engineering designs into real solutions to meet our customers’ needs. The role involves working on systems such as the radar for a Typhoon fighter jet, surveillance systems for coast guards, and cutting edge avionic systems for military aircraft. Initially dayshift Monday – Friday; shift working may be available after training.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:



  • Inspect Substrates and Microwave Modules in line with industry-leading Microwave Manufacturing Workmanship Standards, using a high power microscope to inspect micro-integrated Hybrids, Microwave/RF modules and sub-assemblies by following specific inspection instructions.
  • Manage inspection activities and check that work carried out by technicians meets specifications and drawings; inspect work to ensure it meets the highest standards.
  • Provide feedback to manufacturing technicians to maintain high industrial standards.
  • Ensure adherence with health and safety protocols during final assembly.
  • Initially the position will be dayshift Monday – Friday; however, once trained, shift working may be available.
  • Inspect both substrates and microwave modules to ensure quality and conformance with manufacturing planning.
  • Coordinate and control production equipment in-line with company processes.
  • Carry out both repeat production and varied one-off types of work.
  • Be familiar with substrate attach (duroid/ceramic), MMICs, ICs, caps, diodes and resistors; have soldering skills and die attach experience.
  • Complete understanding of FOD/ESD/“clean as you go”.
  • Interpret and adhere to manufacturing planning; take responsibility for designated 5S areas with daily/weekly/monthly sign-offs.
  • You may have opportunities to contribute towards investigation and analysis of leading-edge development methodologies and influence future development within Leonardo.


What You’ll Bring


  • An experienced electronics/electromechanical inspector capable of inspecting to IPC-610 standards, with current IPC certificates in J-Std-001 and IPC 610.
  • Experience with Microwave Circuitry.
  • Ability to recognise defects on PCBs and mechanical assemblies.
  • Understanding of soldering to IPC standards.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment using high power microscopes with excellent dexterity.
  • Complete understanding of FOD/ESD/“clean as you go”.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to inspect work, flag quality defects, and provide constructive feedback while following written instructions and drawings and adhering to production process times.
  • Coordinate and control production equipment in-line with company processes.
  • Ability to carry out both repeat production and varied one-off types of work.
  • Familiar with substrate attach (duroid/ceramic), MMICs, ICs, caps, diodes and resistors, soldering skills and die attach.
  • Previous experience of military and aerospace products.
  • Experience in a range of hybrid microelectronic assembly techniques including device attachment methods and interconnection techniques to identify and pursue solutions to shortcomings with respect to production methods and documentation.
  • Interpretation and adherence to manufacturing planning.
  • Responsibility for designated 5S areas to be completed in line with daily/weekly/monthly sign-off sheets.
  • Opportunity to contribute towards investigation and analysis of development methodologies within Leonardo.
