Overview

We are looking for an experienced Mechatronic Maintenance Engineer to join our production and maintenance team at our Donington MDF moulding facility. Responsible for the day-to-day scheduled and unscheduled maintenance within the production facility, including factory buildings, machine maintenance and repair works to keep the facility running safely, effectively and efficiently. This is a hands-on role that combines mechanical fitting, electrical maintenance, automation control and an element of design and fabrication.

Hours: Monday to Thursday 09:00 - 18:00, Friday 06:00 - 15:00 (45 hours per week including breaks). Flexibility to cover holidays or scheduled maintenance on other shift patterns will be required.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver continuous improvement in processes and machines and configure manufacturing systems to reduce costs, improve availability and deliver business excellence measures within the production processes.
  • Carry out mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs to plant and machinery.
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting on plant and machinery, including HMI programming as required.
  • Support and maintain PLC-controlled systems and sensors for automated lines and conveyors.
  • Maintain machinery in good working order as per maintenance schedule.
  • Keep the production facility running effectively and efficiently through continual improvements.
  • Assist in machine installations, commissioning and upgrades to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and root cause analysis activities.
  • Ensure plant and machinery are available for maximum productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, neat and tidy work area by following safety and housekeeping procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections and ensure all plant and equipment meet H&S and PUWER requirements.
  • Ensure daily operation of CHP and dust extraction plant are run efficiently.
  • Record maintenance activities through the company systems and keep technical documentation up to date.
  • Co-operate with fellow workers and management; carry out any other duties as required.
  • Must be mechanically minded and able to use a variety of hand tools; capable of MIG/Arc welding; proficient with IT packages such as Microsoft.
What you will need
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment working with electrical and mechanical machinery, with strong fault-finding, diagnostic and repair skills across multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of managing maintenance workloads and working to strict deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing / 5S / TPM principles.
  • ONC / OND Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or equivalent or time-served electrical/mechanical engineer (Mechatronics).
Desired criteria
  • Green belt in Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of biomass boiler plants.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Understanding of wood dust extraction systems and ATEX safety standards.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD.
