Salary: From £24,246 FTE Salary is negotiable and based on experience

Do you have experience in vehicle maintenance or motor mechanics — and a passion for passing on your knowledge to the next generation?

New Meaning Training (NMT) is looking for a Mechanics Tutor to deliver engaging, hands‑on sessions focused on motor vehicle maintenance. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in practical mechanics who’s ready to inspire young people through real‑world learning.

Our learners are aged 16–25, many with EHCPs or additional needs such as autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Some have had disrupted education and may lack confidence, but they thrive in supportive, practical learning environments where they can build skills for life and employment.

This is more than a teaching role — it’s a chance to make a real difference. You’ll work with small groups in a relaxed, non‑traditional classroom, using tools, tasks and teamwork to help learners gain qualifications, independence, and a sense of pride in what they can do.

If you’ve worked in a garage, trained apprentices, or mentored others in the trade — or even if you’ve never taught before but are patient, empathetic, and hands‑on — this could be the career change you’ve been waiting for. Training and support provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver practical, kinaesthetic sessions focused on Motor Vehicle Maintenance (e.g., basic servicing, diagnostics, workshop safety)
  • Support learners in gaining functional skills and AIM qualifications at Entry Level and Level 1
  • Build strong, positive relationships with young people, adapting your approach to meet a wide range of needs
  • Use trauma‑informed, relational strategies to manage behaviour supportively
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and EHCP outcomes
  • Collaborate with LSAs and other tutors to share ideas and maintain a consistent, engaging programme
  • Create a safe, welcoming environment where learners feel respected, challenged, and motivated
  • Work with external agencies, parents/carers, and internal support services where appropriate

About Us

New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 15‑25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.

For the 2025‑2026 academic year, around 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire will join one of our programmes. Many of these students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.

Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as “Toolshed.” Ten years on, NMT continues to grow, with two new centres for 2025‑2026.

In Warwickshire New Meaning Training has two centres. A new one in the north of the county in Nuneaton, and a well‑established and newly refurbished centre in the south in Stratford‑upon‑Avon. Both Warwickshire centres offer five learning programmes: Construction Multiskills, Motor Mechanics, Creative Art & Design, Sports and Computing. They incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials to support our well‑rounded approach. We also provide a ‘Transition Support’ programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.

NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.

You will have:

  • A solid background in motor vehicle mechanics or workshop environments (formal qualifications not essential but advantageous)
  • Ideally, a Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or willingness to work towards it)
  • IOSH Working Safely certification (or willingness to obtain it)
  • Experience working with young people or in a training/mentoring capacity
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, confident manner
  • Patience, empathy, and an adaptable mindset
  • Confidence with planning and record keeping (training provided)
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, SEND, trauma‑informed practice, and youth safeguarding

Safeguarding and Additional Notes

All staff at NMT are expected to adhere to our policies and practices. This post is subject to a DBS check at the enhanced level. Learn more at www.gov.uk

Edge Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK edge computing hiring has moved from tool‑lists to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise resilient edge architectures, real‑time data pipelines, secure device fleets, container/Kubernetes at the edge, on‑device/near‑edge ML, and measurable business impact (latency, reliability, cost‑to‑serve). This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for edge platform engineers, IoT/OT engineers, edge SREs, embedded/firmware engineers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/private LTE), security specialists & product managers. Who this is for: Edge platform/SRE, IoT solution architects, embedded/firmware developers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/SD‑WAN), security engineers (OT/ICS), data/streaming engineers, site deployment/field engineers & edge product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Edge Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For years, computing innovation was focused on the cloud. But as demand for real-time analytics, low-latency processing and secure local data handling grows, edge computing has become the next frontier. From autonomous vehicles to healthcare monitoring devices, retail checkout systems to industrial IoT, edge computing is transforming how data is processed and used in the UK. This shift has also changed what it means to work in the field. Edge computing careers are no longer purely technical. They now require knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design, as professionals must consider regulation, human behaviour, communication & usability alongside engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why UK edge computing careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five fields intersect with edge roles, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Edge Computing Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Edge Computing Department

Edge computing is expanding rapidly in the UK, driven by demands for low latency, on-site processing, IoT proliferation, autonomous systems, 5G, AI inference on devices, and regulatory pressures for data sovereignty. Businesses in sectors such as telecoms, industrial automation, retail, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are pushing computation and intelligence closer to where data is generated. But to design, build, deploy, secure, and maintain edge computing systems requires more than just hardware or software — it requires structured teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. If you’re hiring, or applying for roles via EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, understanding who does what in a mature edge computing department will help you plan better, show relevance in job applications, and build resilient teams. This article covers the key roles in edge computing teams, how they collaborate through the project lifecycle, what skills and qualifications UK employers usually expect, salary benchmarks, challenges and trends, and best practices for structuring effective edge teams.
