We are seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer to be based at HMNB Clyde, Faslane site. This role supports submarine systems testing, calibration, and commissioning to exacting standards, directly contributing to operational readiness and national security.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mechanical testing, calibration, and commissioning activities on submarine systems.
  • Support the Senior Test Engineer to optimise team performance and resource utilisation.
  • Apply safety, quality, and environmental policies during all commissioning tasks.
  • Review engineering documentation and contribute to cross-disciplinary problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with contractors and internal teams to manage risks and meet commissioning goals.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Shift patterns apply and may vary depending on operational requirements. A shift allowance of 35% is included for roles working these patterns.


Essential experience

  • Proven experience in mechanical commissioning and testing.
  • Ability to work autonomously and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong understanding of safety and quality standards in engineering environments.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent with relevant experience)

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
