The role

As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Working within the nuclear sector, you’ll operate and maintain highly specialised mechanical systems in a dynamic, technically complex, and tightly regulated environment. As part of a dedicated Maintenance Team, you’ll provide essential support to the Heysham 2 power station, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of critical infrastructure. Your role will involve hands-on work with precision equipment, routine and reactive maintenance tasks, and close collaboration with engineering and operations teams.

Through your efforts, you’ll help ensure the continued safety, reliability, and performance of the site, playing a key part in maintaining the UK's energy resilience.

  • Ensure the availability of required tools, spare parts, and equipment to carry out tasks efficiently (general hand tools are typically provided by the resident Site Team).
  • Interpret and execute assigned tasks in accordance with all relevant quality standards, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Complete assigned work scopes within agreed timeframes and budget constraints, maintaining a focus on quality and efficiency.
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation and records in a timely manner, such as Assembly & Test Plans and maintenance reports.
  • Receive support from supervisory staff during task execution, with access to site services including quality assurance, safety, and administrative support as needed.


This is a permanent, full-time position with contracted hours of 37 per week. Working hours are 08:30 – 16:30 Monday – Thursday / 08:30 – 13:30 Friday. Overtime is frequently available and is paid at time and a half.

Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

Essential Experience Of The Mechanical Technician

  • Proven experience in a Mechanical Technician role.


Qualifications For The Mechanical Technician

  • Level 3 engineering qualification.


Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) .
