About Glanua

Glanua is an industry leader in providing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions to design, build, operate and maintain critical water and wastewater infrastructure across Ireland and the UK. We are a trusted provider to the municipal and industrial sector where our clients include Ireland and the UK’s largest water utilities, Uisce Éireann (formally Irish Water), Thames Water, Yorkshire Water, United Utilities and Affinity Water.

The Role

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will deliver innovative and technically challenging mechanical engineering solutions for a diverse portfolio of MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) and Civil works. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement mechanical systems for municipal water and wastewater projects. The role demands strong technical expertise, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage mechanical aspects of projects from design through to completion. Please note the role is primarily based in the UU region but may occasionally require travel for working on projects for our other regulated water clients in the UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
  • Mechanical Design Leadership - Take a leading role in the mechanical design and sub-contract package delivery for water and wastewater treatment projects. Oversee all stages of mechanical design and delivery, including site surveys, detailed design, tender pricing and subcontract appointments.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration - Work closely with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into the overall project. Provide technical guidance and coordination with internal and external design and project delivery teams.
  • Procurement and Equipment Selection - Manage the selection and procurement of mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, tanks, pipework) and materials, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and project specifications.
  • Subcontractor Management - Coordinate and manage subcontractors to ensure that their mechanical work aligns with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards. Ensure subcontractors meet contractual requirements and deliverables.
  • Site Monitoring and Progress Reviews - Conduct regular site visits to monitor the progress of mechanical work, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure safety and compliance with established standards.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement - Build and maintain strong client relationships from project commencement through to close-out. Provide technical support, updates, and advice throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring client objectives and deadlines are met.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance - Ensure the consistent implementation of health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures in line with Glanua and client-defined standards. Address any performance, scope, cost, or schedule issues proactively.
  • Project Reporting and Documentation - Prepare detailed project plans, reports, and status updates for clients and internal stakeholders. Highlight key milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies to keep all parties informed.
  • Continuous Improvement - Participate in project review meetings and incorporate lessons learned into future projects. Contribute to process improvements across the company, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of mechanical project delivery.
  • Team Development - Foster a collaborative team environment and contribute to a positive and supportive culture. Mentor junior engineers and encourage a focus on continuous personal and professional development.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer in the water and wastewater industry. Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines (civil, electrical, process, etc.) and provide technical and commercial guidance in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong knowledge of WIMES together with analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of resolving technical issues and managing project changes on-site.
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in mechanical design and construction, particularly in water and wastewater sectors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Project is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Ability to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively, ensuring their needs are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Full UK Driving License

Edge Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK edge computing hiring has moved from tool‑lists to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise resilient edge architectures, real‑time data pipelines, secure device fleets, container/Kubernetes at the edge, on‑device/near‑edge ML, and measurable business impact (latency, reliability, cost‑to‑serve). This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for edge platform engineers, IoT/OT engineers, edge SREs, embedded/firmware engineers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/private LTE), security specialists & product managers. Who this is for: Edge platform/SRE, IoT solution architects, embedded/firmware developers, edge AI/ML engineers, network engineers (5G/SD‑WAN), security engineers (OT/ICS), data/streaming engineers, site deployment/field engineers & edge product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Edge Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For years, computing innovation was focused on the cloud. But as demand for real-time analytics, low-latency processing and secure local data handling grows, edge computing has become the next frontier. From autonomous vehicles to healthcare monitoring devices, retail checkout systems to industrial IoT, edge computing is transforming how data is processed and used in the UK. This shift has also changed what it means to work in the field. Edge computing careers are no longer purely technical. They now require knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design, as professionals must consider regulation, human behaviour, communication & usability alongside engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why UK edge computing careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five fields intersect with edge roles, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Edge Computing Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Edge Computing Department

Edge computing is expanding rapidly in the UK, driven by demands for low latency, on-site processing, IoT proliferation, autonomous systems, 5G, AI inference on devices, and regulatory pressures for data sovereignty. Businesses in sectors such as telecoms, industrial automation, retail, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are pushing computation and intelligence closer to where data is generated. But to design, build, deploy, secure, and maintain edge computing systems requires more than just hardware or software — it requires structured teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. If you’re hiring, or applying for roles via EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, understanding who does what in a mature edge computing department will help you plan better, show relevance in job applications, and build resilient teams. This article covers the key roles in edge computing teams, how they collaborate through the project lifecycle, what skills and qualifications UK employers usually expect, salary benchmarks, challenges and trends, and best practices for structuring effective edge teams.
